Every credible article I've ever read on it has said that Liverpool fans sang it first.

Contrary to popular belief, the song was not actually written for Liverpool, although they may have sung it first. However, they stole the Fields of Athenry from us and turned it into the 'Fields of Anfield Road', so we're equal.

Plus, we sing YNWA 100x better than they do.

I remember a poster on this website stating that Celtic fans sang a song about Jock Stein in the 60's to the tune of their 'Hello Hello' song. He even posted a link to the song on youtube. Recall him saying that Celtic fans sang it first but Old RFC fans adopted it with their lyrics, it gained popularity with them and our fans ceased singing it. Told a few people about this before and no-one seems to believe me.

Although my post was tongue in cheek you are indeed correct Minty.

the tune is "Marching Through Georgia" and we sung a song, Big Jock Manager of Celtic.

Aye mate, that's the one. So do you know if that was a Celtic song before they adopted the Billy Boys?

Celtic fans also used to say "We Are The People" - before the great unwashed adopted it as some sort of British pride nametag.

When did we actually start singing it regularly?

My dad went to all the home and away games for about 12-14 years starting in 1977 and says it was always sung when he started going - but he cant remember the colour of his own motor lol
