Can't disagree with anything BBJ said in that article, except that I imagine Southampton finishung midtable next year given the money they're spending. I must admit that I also thought he and Arsenal were a perfect fit for each other.

only drawbacks at arsenal were the following:

    1) settled midfield of Arteta-wilshire-ramsey played very well in the run-in and had Rosiscky poking around as well when wilshire was injured

    2) a possible tactical shift in their formation away from a cdm (a la Song) in favor of those 3 guys more willing to go box to box

I can see Southampton finishing between 10th and 15th this season tbh. Still though the closest they will ever get to Europe is maybe seeing the French mainland across the Channel on a sunny day.

Given they are adding Victor Wanyama and Dejan Lovren to the squad and they finished 14th last season as a newly promoted side, a 15th place finish would be hugely disappointing. The summer transfers are unlikely to stop at Wanyama, they are being linked with bids for £20m strikers. They aren't doing all this to merely be happy to finish 10th to 15th.

Southampton were last in the UEFA Cup in 2003/04. That was whilst Rupert Lowe was the chairman, after an 8th place finish and FA Cup Finalists.

Last season Wigan won the FA Cup, Swansea won the League Cup and 4th tier Bradford made the final. Is it sensible to rule out Southampton ever making Europe again as they have done in the past, especially now they have good infrastructure in place and owners like the Liebherrs?

It is not possible to see France from Southampton, even on the sunniest day imaginable. Even if you overlook it is over 100 miles away, the Isle of Wight gets in the way! :86:

Anyone else not that bothered he is leaving? I'm just glad to get a conclusion and not to hear any more transfer speculations. It's nothing personal against Wanyama, just glad to see the whole situation come to and end.

In my opinion this transfer shows a lack of ambition from him.

At this moment in time, no.

I'll be glad when it's over and don't have to hear bout the will he/won't he saga anymore.

£12m+ gives us a great opportunity to go out and buy excellent players - I see this as the same scenario as when our "best" player - Aiden McGeady - was sold for £9m, and we managed to revamp the entire team for the better. Well, this transfer could free up the funds to bring in players that will UPGRADE this squad for an assault on the CL.

    Happy days I say....................

I'm * gutted he's away but I can console myself with the fact we have £12m in the bank and the saga is over.

I'd have preferred him in the squad for the upcoming season, but £12m+ is more than consoling for a boy we picked up for less than a mill less than two years ago.

Goodbye Victor Wanyama. For me this hurts really bad. But then growing up in Kenya I would have never imagined it would be possible for a fellow countryman to play for my team and for that I guess I can't be upset that the dream is done. The greatest player kenya ever had and pulled on the hoops. Ach well. Thank you for the memories!!

So, is that you gonna be leaving us for one of the Southampton forums then?
