Who's to say Wanyama might not fulfill his potential? There seems to be all this talk he'll be a 25 million pound player in no time etc etc but plenty of players have not fulfilled there potential and this might just turn out to be a great 12 million in the bank.

There were times last season I was hoping the clubs that were hovering and ready to splash the cash on Vic weren't watching. Maybe Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City etc that were getting linked with him at the time had seen those games and that's why they haven't bothered entering the race to sign him.

He has his flaws but for a 22 year he has great potential, £12 million? Yes Please, brilliant deal for the club :50: :celt_2:

Good Luck Big Man :shamrock: :bbpd:

They done the same with Di Canio mate! Although Di Canio was probably more known because of the Serie A exposure in this country at the time he was playing. They never use to acknowledge the fact that it was TB who brought him to these shores :87:

Great bit of business for us.

It's hard for Celtic to resist the big offer and it will certainly make the club even more stable than we already where.Id like to see us sign another 2 players though from some of the transfer money to keep us fans happy.

Hope it's made clear what the next sell-on clause will be for us when the transfer is completed.

    I'd be hoping for minimum 20%,he goes for 20mil next it's a 4mil windfall for us!:icon_mrgreen:

Hi all, now that this saga "seems" to be almost at a conclusion I thought I would drop by here to gauge reaction. More I think to get a consensus on the type of player we are getting.

Personally I'm delighted at the deal as you guys rate this kid highly, which is good enough for me. He will obviously need to settle into our team and get used to the EPL. I'm not going to start going off on one about how superior the EPL is over the SPL because I genuinely don't watch any SPL football. I think settling into a new environment and team is as important as the standard of the league. We seem to be very good at making young players feel welcome and settled. Hopefully the same here.

The money seems fair to you guys although I'm old-school so spending this kind of money seems mental to me. Our ticket prices were just revealed for next season and you can see where these transfer fees are being recouped from in some part.

I haven't seen any of the mercenary stuff mentioned here by many of our fans. If that agent stuff about wanting a bigger slice was true then it must of been resolved as our CEO seems a bit of a no-nonsense kind of guy re: agents. I think a table came out recently showing Saints paid the least to agents in the last year.. less than £1m IIRC.

Also the comment in bold quoted made me chuckle. Saints do quite well producing some half decent players to not need to claim to of produced Wanyama. Still, he's young and joining a young team that will hopefully grow.

I'm sure we'll feel like you one day when he moves on if his development continues at the same rate.

Anyway, enough waffle. Once again, all the best for the CL quali's and season ahead.

Hail Hail / Up the Saints

We have a history of never cashing in properly on our talent, there is nothing to say he will completely lose form or suffer injury and never look a 12 million quid midfielder never mind a 25 million quid one.

It's a good deal for Celtic, especially if we have inserted the sell on clause.

welcome to the forum mate. You are getting a fantastic player and I hope he does well for ya's. Im sure he will slot in beside schneiderlin and by this time next year maybe a few other clubs will have realised just how good he is.

We get all the money obviously :smiley-laughing002: Wanyama will probably get about £600k off it though. Im pretty sure 90% of players get 5% of the transfer fee - unless they request a transfer - think thats been an established rule in football for decades that in players contracts they always get 5% of the transfer fee, but if they request or demand a move then they dont get it. Agents dont get paid by the selling club, they only get paid for negotiating contracts, so they only get paid when signing for clubs or signing new contracts.

We dont owe any other clubs money off the deal since Beerschot died they can no longer get their clause.

Naw mate, his previous club Germinal Beerschot were due 10% I think it was, but they went bust so I don't think we actually owe them any money now. Southampton seem to * hate agents so I highly doubt they'll have paid a big agent fee etc so I think it's pretty safe to say we'll be gettin a vast majority of the £12.5m. I think people are mistaken your question for 'How much will Celtic spend on transfers from the £12.5m?"

We'll get all the cash as a club, I think he thought you were meaning how much would we get to spend which I recon could be around the 5 million mark out of the 12, the rest will go in the bank.

The comment was not specifically aimed at Southampton but aimed at the wider English Premier League.

There are teams and fans out there who claim to have discovered talent and made them what they are, when it is absolute nonsense.

This is pretty much the way I see it as well. In relative terms I think we have played a blinder on this one. The reality is that Vic is still a largely unproven player. I know he played quite well in Europe but we also did well without him. To get a record transfer fee for a guy who in no way could be considered a mainstay of our team is fantastic business.

I hope he does well as he seems a nice lad but I dont think he is going to be that much of a miss for us. I also think that the club deserve huge credit for the way we have handled player sales in the last year or so. We got £6m for Ki, seemingly £12m for Vic and were in a position to turn down £7m for Hooper. Who we will still get a similar price for if we sell him. For guys who "only" play in the SPL we just cant argue with that.

Lets hope Lawwell and the board stick to their word about reinvesting all the monies into the team/club. If they do, we should be in a position to shop in a potentially higher price range, if Lenny wants to.

Its correct, have you never heard of that 5% players always get off the transfer?

Im quite sure its existed for decades and has always been 5% obviously its no a requirement and for some players it might be higherbut it is generally done. It's usually only ever publicised when a player declines it and lets their club keep it, Kris Boyd done it and I think Naismith when they went to the Dead from Kilmarnock as obviously £20k, £40k and that is no use to them when they've just been handed £10/15k a week contracts and decentsigning on fees. Where as Kilmarnock could use that £20k or £40k to fund their youth team for a few years.

Older players always talk about it too, like getting their £30k cut of their £600k move in the 80s. Or on that Days of our lives programme, see old players slagging each other "aye you were desperate to leave but you wouldnt hand in a transfer request so you didnt lose your sale bonus" etc

I'm not sure how Belgian business law works but their creditors might be entitled to some of the money.
