CELTIC midfielder Victor Wanyama is close to agreeing a move to Southampton in a record-breaking deal worth £12.5m.

The influential Kenyan international did not play in his side’s 6 - 2 friendly loss to Greuther Furth and instead remained at the club’s German training base to hammer out personal terms with the Premiership side.
Reports this morning suggest that the move could be completed today which, if completed, will be the largest transfer fee ever paid in Scottish football.
The transfer fee record was previously notched up Rangers when they signed Tore Andre Flo for £12m in 2000.
Reports suggest money raised from the sale of Wanyama would be used to offer contracts to current squad members at Celtic with the possibility of a big name arrivals also not ruled out.
The Parkhead side had accepted a previous offer from the St Mary’s side however Wanyama’s wages and agent fee proved to be a stumbling block.
Wanyama, who joined Celtic from Belgian side Germinal Beerschot for less than £1m two years ago, has one year left on his contract.
The 22 year-old has attracted interest from other clubs south of the border with Cardiff submitting a £10m offer.
The Premiership side are reported to have offered personal terms to the Kenyan international which are in line with his expectations however their bid was rejected was Celtic.
Neil Lennon’s side face Cliftonville next week in a Champions League qualifier with the Parkhead manager expressing concern last night at his mounting injury list.
Captain Scott Brown is a doubt for next Wednesday’s match as is Joe Ledley, Adam Mathews and Gary Hooper.
New signing Virgil van Dijk and Charlie Mulgrew picked up injuries during last night’s defeat to the German second division side.

Yup...20 odd million and walking straight into a top 4 team..not little old Southampton..or Cardiff for 12....

Still..I'm very happy about this signing..just hope he arrives with the right attitude not because it was all that's on offer and we're giving him lots of money....and get rid of his d1ckhole agent...

If we do sell big vic for 12 mill i want to see us spend another 6-8 mill on top of what we have already spent. CL qualification is absolutely vital. 6-8 mill investment for a 15-20M return.

Thank you very much Southampton.

I think that's how much people think we should be getting, but they know we just aren't, if wanyama is a big success down south I reckon clubs will be more willing to risk spending closer to £20 million in the future on celtic players.

Get him sold and get players sorted on new deals and 1 or 2 more in.

Wanyama was great in the CL but he was average domestically. He was one of the main players at fault against St Mirren in the league cup semi. He also was suspended for the Scottish cup final and we done fine without him. He is a promising talent but we can cope without him. We will lose some strength and height in the midfield though. I feel 12 million is a fantastic price. Neil Lennon was basically saying hes not for sale when he said he was worth 25 million. He also described Hooper as ''invaluable''. He is just being clever anyone who actually thinks Wanyama is worth 20-25 million right now is a delusional *. Unfortunately we have a number of them in our support.

Wish him all the best. He's been class for two seasons and will only improve. Hopefully this is another step to him achieving his dream move to Manchester United.
