Neither have kicked a ball for your team how can you possibly know how good they are going to be? Lovren is highly rated yes but he could be an utter flop for all you know.

It's no fluke we do it consistently over a number of years, the top teams in the world have all fallen at Celtic park...
15 wins out of 23 at home in the champions league proper and only losing twice to barca and juve

You lot keep kidding yourself on though

    Your right about Lambert.

People have missed out Vegard Forren because he hasn't even made a premier league appearance for Southampton. How can you say he would get in a Celtic side when you haven't even seen him play for your side. The same could be said for Lovren.

I hate when clubs down south do this hypothetical 'if we were in the SPL 'thing. For a start there's no way on earth they would be spending £12 million on a single player or even half of that, seeing as there's no point when the rest of the Leauge can barely afford to spend half a million on a player. Then you would have to ask if a £12 million rated player would even want to play in the SPL in its current state, personally I dont think they would so there goes someone like Ramirez.

It really does annoy me (and this isin't necessarily directed at Southampton) when clubs in the BPL talk about how easy we have it and how they would dominate up here. Clubs like Crystal Palace, Hull, Stoke etc would probably end up like the other teams in the SPL.

It's the same with all these teams really they talk about the lure of the BPL and how amazing it is playing for them but personally I would rather (and this would still be the case even if I wasn't a Celtic fan) play for a team where I actually have a genuine chance of winning medals than go to a club down south just to play against Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea a couple of times a season in what would most likely be losing efforts nine times out of ten. Unlike teams like that we actually need to win something and can't afford to be mediocre year in year out, nor would our fans accept it.

I didn't say Forren and Lovren would definitely get into the Celtic side. But its is a reasonable assumption (although it has its problems) to think a £10m and £4.2m centre back pairing are going to be of a certain quality. You are right, I haven't seen them play yet and they may well be flops.

How many games have Forren and Lovren played? how can they be rated if theyve never played. We have players who havent played yet either Van Dijk and Balde.

Are Lallana and Rodriguez wingers then? Commons plays wide too but hes not a winger.

Lambert is a decent player but not as good as Hooper.

Hooper was 21 when he played 1 season in the Championship for the team that finished 20th, he scored 19 goals in 35 games. Lambert played for the team who finished 2nd aged 30 and scored 27 in 42 games.

Hooper scored his 19 goals from 68 shots in the Championship, Lambert scored his 27 from 117 shots. Only 1 of Hoopers 19 was a penalty, 10 of Lamberts 27 goals were penalties :50:

So in short, Hooper aged 21 scored more goals from open play in much less shots in less games for a far worse team than Lambert did aged 30 in a better team, playing more games and having much more shots at goal.

Look guys just remember if Wanyama goes we will be getting 12 million pounds for him. That is a record transfer fee ! We should be happy for Wanyama that he is trying to further his development elsewhere. It might not work out for him but I hope it does. He will be fondly remembered for his great attitude and performances. Plus the 12 million pounds :smiley-laughing002:

It doesn't matter how much a player costs, sometimes it just doesn't work out. There are plenty examples of this, Shevchenko to Chelsea, Carroll to Liverpool etc. So until we see them play, it's a pointless exercise including them in a team just now, especially when it's a team comprising of who we think is the best players.

I'll bid this thread farewell. I have still kept popping in just to gain the latest from your side of the fence and saddened to see our muppet still banging on about how he has a bigger * than you lot, sad really.

It appears on the face of it that both clubs dealt with this matter in a professional way and its a shame money has spoilt the deal. Our Exec Chairman seems to have a real bee in his bonnet about this kind of thing so its no surprise really that it has fallen through. Here's a thought, he just might not want to lower himself to our level.. perfectly understandably and his prerogative. I wish him well and I'm sure I'll watch his career with possibly envy at what might of been.

Oh and as a final thought regarding the EPL Vs. the SPL. You might not have the millions of the EPL but I bet going to games is far more reasonably priced. Something fans in England seem only too happy to accept. In an earlier post I alluded to the fact I can't afford to go to a lot of games a season as its over £100 a pop with my son and travel/food etc - and thats for a * fixture like Wigan or Stoke. I actually really enjoyed our years in League 1 and the Championship... its was cheaper and we won a lot more. I really don't get the EPL a lot of the time.

Respectful best wishes for the season ahead once again. Until the next time we try and fail to sign one of your players :smiley-laughing002::bbpd:

Lovren whos been mentioned in this thread as if he is Maldini played 24 games for Lyon last season and they only won 11 of them, he was sent off 3 times.

    Quality player right enough.

    He overlooked...

Hooper has played and scored in Europe, but then Lambert has scored vs Man Utd, Man Ciy x2, Liverpool, Chelsea x2.

Lambert was the top scoring English striker in the English Premier League 2012/13 with 15 Premier League goals for a newly promoted team that finished 14th.

Lambert created more chances for others than any other Premier League player (66). He is more than merely a goalscorer! How is Hooper's all round game?

Hooper's current domestic opposition is far weaker and he is playing for comfortably the best side in the league.

That is the typical premier league mentality. It doesn't matter how much the player costs. A price isn't a guarantee of quality. Premier league clubs will get charged those premium prices. We just got one of the best centre backs in Holland for 2.5 million. In the eredivisie team of the year. You have shelled out 4.2 million for a guy from the Norwegian league (No better than the SPL) who hasn't even made an appearance for you yet. So no it is not a ''reasonable assumption'' to say that they would get in the Celtic team just because you paid more money for them. Going on the logic it is a ''reasonable assumption'' to say Andy Carroll would get in the Man United team ahead of Robin Van Persie.

    It's turned into a * contest.

I don't think we're being disrespectful when we suggest that Wanyama could do better than Saints. The guy is very highly-rated here. Personally, I feel he is ready for the top sides already. He would suit Arsenal down to the ground, and even United/City could do with a player of his type.

If Southampton manage to get him, they'll be getting a top drawer player who seems to relish the big occasion.

You just beat me to it the typical mentality,we spent 20 mill so he must be quality bullshit that you often hear and there two centre backs who they haven't seen play but are bigging up are prime examples..

Fucksake we payed 5 mill for a Brazilian defender who was supposed to be the next big thing and was capped by brazil rafael scheidt,we didn't need his first name his second summed him up perfectly
