And who was that? If it's Ki he was our fifth choice central midfielder, after Brown, Kayal, Ledley and Wanyama.

Ki was a bench warmer mate. A good bench warmer but a bench warmer nonetheless.

He wasn't even starting games and was on the fringes of the squad, so you still haven't given an example of us losing our best players to lesser teams.

    Are you meaning Ki? :smiley-laughing002:

He was a good player although he split the support down the middle, some felt he was useless. Either way he was our 5th choice centre mid.

HAte to say it, but that's another example of a fan of a BPL team assuming a player must've been something special up here to get a move down there, when the opposite is actually true. He's done better down there than he has here, as a fair few players have actually.

ki was going to run down his contract and leave on a free, that was a very good fee, but he wasnt a bench warmer imo, he was a very good goal scoring midfielder, but not first choice

Oh *, I can't believe Ki has just been used as an example of a 'player that was important to us and that we didn't want to sell' :56:

The guy was/is a good player, but he isn't suited for the physicality of the Scottish game. You need midfield warriors in the mould of Lennon, Brown, Kayal, Keane and Wanyama. Ki was very much expendable and we still made a decent profit on him too.

    Ah Ted...

You have what's known as glasgow_Bhoy88 syndrome.

It's a rare disease but once you contract it it's hard to get rid of.

Not exactly a bench warmer but wasn't exactly needed either. He had 4 players ahead of him.

Please don't let us turn this into a Ki thread, they're a * nightmare :56:

Do you consider Spartak Moscow bigger or smaller than Celtic?

Ki was the epitome of the buy/sell thing that we want to do know. Get a decent player, turn him into a better one, if he's worth a few bob and it doesn't effect our team in anyway to sell him? Punt him.

4 players ahead of him surely makes him a bench warmer.

I disagree, lets turn this into a Ki thread. :boxing: :101:

Would be really disappointed if he moved to Southampton.

A lot better than that so he is

To be fair to Ted Bates, In think Motherwell are probably equivalent to a lower Championship/ upper League 1 side and teams like St Mirren or Dundee would probably struggle to survuve in the English league 1. In the short term, we have a big problem right enough; but I can really see the SPL improving over the next 10 years as teams start to bring through more good young Scottish players from their youth teams, while the EPL will continue to slowly decline. So yes, it is our reality at the moment that smaller clubs in England can take our best players; but I don't think the word "continue" is justified, as it wasn't true 10 years ago and may not be true 10 years from now.

Again, the club wanted to sell McGeady and McGeady wanted to go.

The last time it happened was Stan Petrov. Even then though we wrangled it in our direction by getting him to sign a new contract then punting him.

We have no debt, we have the Champions League half the time and a world wide support that supports us financially. We aren't rich but we aren't * stupid either.

Wanyama and Hooper look like they are going against our wishes though, I'll give you that one but it is very, very rare.

Smaller but still a very good Russian side nonetheless. McGeady was a good player but, again, opinion was split on him. No way could we have rejected £9m for a player who was going to leave anyway.

We wanted to punt McGeady and our full team under Neil Lennon was built off the back of that transfer.
