Sounds like Spartak could be doing us a favour, bhoys n ghirls. A nice wee get it right *' up ye, Benfica!!!

    http://videocelts.com/2012/11/blogs/spartak-play-down-importance-of-celtic-clash

Spartak Moscow coach Unai Emery has confirmed that his priority is a Champions League slot for next season. Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat from Barcelona killed off their qualification hopes for the current season with nothing at stake other than pride and prize money when they visit Celtic to complete Group G.
Most of the speculation around the final matchday has been focused on what sort of side Barcelona will field against Benfica with Spartak’s motivations overlooked.
Emery’s side are currently sitting in fourth place in the Russian League and are five points off a Champions League spot.
Either side of their trip to Glasgow they face matches against clubs above them in the table hosting Zenit on Thursday followed by a trip to Rubin Kazan the Sunday after facing Celtic.
Six teams are within six points of second place, leaders CSKA Moscow are five ahead of second placed Anzhi Makhachkala, with Emery dropping a strong hint that the domestic game is his immediate priority.
After losing to Barca the Spartak boss said: “The Champions League always distracts you from domestic matters slightly so now we have to concentrate on the Russian league to make sure we qualify for Europe again next season.
“In my overall analysis of this group stage,I would say that things got away from us with the 3-2 home defeat against Celtic FC when we seemed to have everything going for us. The three points from that game are what we are missing now.
“We had a lot of hopes invested in this tournament – qualifying for the next phase or even just getting into the Europa League.
Aiden McGeady hasn’t played for Spartak since October 7 due to a knee injury picked up playing for Ireland against the Faroe Isles.

3 days after our match w/ Spartak, they were scheduled to play away to Rubin Kazan, who are just above them in their league table (both teams battling for European places), but I see that it's supposedly been postponed?

Don't know why that is, but I don't like it!

That is not good. Teams tend to perform better right after a manager is sacked, in particular in case the manager was not well liked by the players (not sure if that is the case here).

This new manager is going to be coming in knowing his game against us means absolutely nothing to him.

Quite the opposite I think. Players will want to give their all for the new manager against us. :31:

Think the new manager will be more likely to tinker in our match, since it will be only his second match in charge and it's the only thing he'll have resembling a friendly for the rest of season.

Or the chance to show he's the right man for the job by finishing a poor CL campaign on a high note. I'd rather Emery stayed.

Good luck to Celtic! I hope that you will win and demolish our team.

Karpin is now head coach till the end of the year. Players did everything to sack Emeri and Karpin is not the last figure in that. I hate those players that intentionally sacked Emeri only because of their personal interest forgetting about all the fans that see it and all the * that now comes out, these players don't deserve to wear Spartak Moscow uniform and Karpin should be sacked first.

    Good luck Celtic!

Do you think you will be better with Karpin back in charge? Why did he leave his job as manager in the first place?

Karpin is really strong in emotional charging, but nothing else. The only striker who is form is Dzyuba, Emenike is totally in bad shape, Welliton is in bad shape for long period. Central defenders are playing terribly and it has been the same for long period. I would say that the current situation is really bad. I don't even know what to expect.

Hopefully Spartak just play youths against us as they have to concentrate on their league, but we beat them in their own place so we should really be able to beat them even if they play their full team.

    I do not fear Spartak.

There will be no youth team, the main team will be definitely, the season is lost and Karpin will try to show that he is a coach and Emeri is not.
Your victory in Moscow is more luck and Spartak own loss and nothing else.
    Good luck.
