Semantics? You stated Lennon dismissed it, that is a lie.

His comments are there in black and white, people can make up their own mind. What do you think he had to gain by making that information public?

Again this is pure semantics, he as much as dismissed it when he said it’s unlikely to go any further.

Why would he say that? Because it’s true I’d imagine. Unless of course you think he’s telling lies.

I’d love Del Piero to be a Celtic player, but having heard Lennon speak, it's very very doubtful.

Heard it here first boys, may aswell close thread now!

    C'mon mate that's a little naive.
Arsene Wenger said he didn't know who Cazorla was, less than 2 weeks later he'd signed him.
Managers will do their best to avoid getting hopes up. The fact that Lenny hasn't categorically ruled it out tells me it is possible.

Not new ones as yet. Just the same ones being regurgitated. Over here, Lennon's said all he has to say on it for tonight, maybe tomorrow will bring a bit of movement - either way - and we can know for certain :50:

To be honest though, he isn't going to come out and say "there is a good chance we'll sign him" considering the uncertainty of the transfer market, this is about as good as it gets with big profile signings.

This thread is a triumph of hope over expectation. Which is a good victory to have. :icon_mrgreen: But don't get your hopes up too high folks.

    Lenny this evening:

"His name has cropped up in conversation but that's been it really, I don't think there's any more mileage in that really."

"If it's there to be looked at we've looked at it yknow - but I don't think it's gonna go any further than that."

    I'm not picky.
Was just thinking this myself as I had just read about Allardyce saiying that he had resigned himself to the fact that he wasn't going to get Carroll but it's just been confirmed that they have just got him on a season long loan.

I'm still hoping this can be done but trying to to get my hopes up too much :smiley-laughing002:

Know that for a fact do you? :87:

Italian media sources are claiming Scottish champions Celtic are now favourites to sign legendary former Italian international Alessandro Del Piero.

The 37-year-old striker who scored 27 times in 91 appearances for the Azzurri is currently a free-agent after leaving Serie 'A' title-winners Juventus at the end of last season.

Swiss club Sion had considered themselves in pole position to sign the legendary forward who they wanted to reunite with ex-Milan midfielder and international colleague Gennaro Gattuso. But Del Piero has already rejected their offer.

Sporting Braga and Sydney FC are similarly watching his situation while Tottenham Hotspur have since cooled their interest, leaving the Italian press believing Celtic as his likely destination.

He kind of contradicts himself though as he makes out the name has cropped up and that's it yet after that says "there has been contact with his advisors"

I believe we are in the same position as Sydney in that we have offered him a wage deal but just arent being quite as vocal about it. He told Sydney he would make a decision in 48 hours from yesterday. I dont think he would have decided there and then for us. The guy is in no rush as he's out of contract and can sign anytime so maybe wants to wait till the contract dealings are done by tomorrow then see whats on offer.

Thats just my view on it anyway :celt_2:

He doesn't give much away either way you look at it does he. Lenny is remaining very tight lipped on it so it can be taken 1) that we're not getting him so don't bother asking any more questions on it, or 2) behind the scenes, we are doing our best to get him

Won't know for sure until tomorrow though.

The thing about this one is, as already stated, it doesn't have to be completed this week. It could drag on another week easily, despite Sydney saying they would be told either way by Saturday.

The MLS would be the natural place to go rather than the Australian but, hey, maybe he fancies adding to his Champions League tally :50:

i beleive he will wait to see wots the best offer in terms of size of club and league ,it wont be just about money as he is fairly rich already to put it mildly.

I have a feeling Braga will be in with a very good shout of landing him too. They can also offer champions league football plus the have a better climate and league. Would be surprised if they havent offered him something behind the scenes and are staying tight lipped about it.
