If I was you I wouldnt bother coming over to a game at all. Thats too much for 1 game, if your coming over this year you should come over during a bit were we have 2 games in a row like Saturday/Tuesday for a League and Champions League game. Although I imagine you probably need to book it in advance by a few months so probably cant even do that.

I agree, I didn't mean that I think less of him as a fan because of it, as I said, and as many other have said, if you're proud to wear the celtic colours and will Celtic to victory, then you are a fan.

I only bring it up because someone who has "taken a year out" from supporting the club is the last person I would expect to see judging others. It would be like David Murray making fun of someones financial plan. Picking an argument against someone who has a lot of ammo to fire back at your.

    I'm not picky.
I think this pretty much sums it up for me.

I know that I absolutely hate it when we lose games (especially when it was against the old filth) but the feeling of winning is great (especially when it was over the old filth).

For me, what makes a fan is basically following and supporting the club, through good times as well as the bad, no matter when you live or where you come from.

The Celtic family is world-wide afterall.

This kind of thought * me off big time. Their thinking is basically that anyone who doesn't go to the games has a less valued opinion or doesn't fully support the team. What about people from Asia, Australia and America (like yourself) that don't go to any games at all. Does that mean they are not a "fully-fledged" fan like someone from Glasgow?

If I could have afforded it I would have went to Deebo to see us playing Real Madrid, but I'm just outside St Louis, so obviously quite a distance away and couldn't afford it.

People who think this way are just idiots in my opinion and just because you've got one person that's been to 100's of games, it doesn't make him/her any more of a fan than someone who's only been to 5.

I would say a true Celtic supporter has to:

    1. Get the euphoric feeling when we score / win.
    2. Have a feeling of pride to be a Celtic supporter even when we lose heavily.
    3. Appreciate what the club stands for and respect and remember those who have got the club to where we are today.
    4. If possible, make a genuine effort to attend matches.
    5. Think about the club every day.
    6. Support every single player who plays for Celtic equally.
    7. Remain faithful even in dark times.

Also, I really don't agree with the "if someone says they are a fan, they are" argument. For example I live within 20 miles of Celtic Park and know plenty of people who claim to be Celtic supporters who often jump on the bandwagon after a good result.

I sometimes ask people why they don't make an effort to even attend just one or two games a season and some people say they can't afford it, then you hear of the same guys out clubbing at the weekend, often purchasing class A drugs at £30 a gram. If someone cares about clubbing or cocaine more than Celtic then I'm sorry, they simply can't claim to be a true supporter unfortunately.

If you are devasted after losing the league on the final day,you are a supporter in my eyes.
The ones that do my nut in are the ones you offer your season ticket to for games like st mirren and they aren't interested but they phone you for tickets for the huns games or league winning games

I luv fans like this whether you get to a game or not mate, nothing better than walking in a foreign country with your hoops on and a local stopping you to talk about the Celtic, makes my heart burst with pride that we are known across the globe for all the right reasons with a common love.

Another point took my auld Maw to her first ever live game last year for her birthday V St Mirren and she is still talking about it today ........ she was 88

You wouldn't dare tell her shes not a true bona fide Celtic fan or the carpet beater would come out to you :56:

Hate this better fan mentality from some, those who bring up how many games they go to,or how much they spend,or how far back in their family that Celtic are in their blood....pretty petty.

As mentioned by others,if you are ecstatic when we win, dejected when we don't and follow the team, games, news etc whether it is from your armchair or not then you are a Celtic Fan and not one is better fan than the other.

Financial restraints, other commitments, distance from Celtic Park means a lot of folk can't go,doesn't make them any less a fan than those who don't have restrictions.

Ive noticed in general with all supporters of any team they think games attended makes their opinions more valid. You only have to listen to people on 606 or to a lesser extent super scoreboard to hear people reel off their credentials before they make their point. " hi im joe * and ive been a ** supporter for 33 years and im a season ticket holder " as if it makes their point carry more weight.. really irritates me

People are arseholes, there's * in every walk of life. Celtic fans, Sevco fans, Hearts and Hibs fans. Arseholes in every fanbase. If I was in your position I probably would never have been to a game, hard to justify paying £800 to watch a football match when you can watch it on TV.

If you love Celtic then your a supporter. Financial, geographical and personal issues dictate whether you can attend matches but they don't dictate if you're a fan or not.

There's something special about Celtic as a club that, unless you are a supporter you will never understand. Putting it into words is near impossible though, it is a special club which is why people from around the world can support us and feel the joy that it brings.

If you've ever cried as a result of watching the Hoops, in joy or despair, then you are as much a fan as anybody in my eyes. I distinctly remember bawling my eyes out when Oldco won the league in the early 90s as a result of us losing to Murderwell.

My Da bought me my first season ticket after seeing that.

You don't have to strut about with tatoos and strips on to be a fan. What really annoys me is when you see somebody out in the street with a top on and their team's on the box. *? Some fan you - cannae even be arsed sitting in front of a tele to watch yer team!

The Scotland Sig is your right and has nothing to do with you supporting Celtic. That's a personal thing between you and whoever wrongly slated you.

It is also the right of fans to hold political beliefs but I don't see how it makes you feel less of a fan. Maybe it is you who has a problem with other people's opinion instead of not worrying about it.

I think the only thing different between going to games and not, is you get a different opinion on things. Like id say fans that dont get to many games or no games are almost always the ones who dont like Scott Brown and even that fan on here he seems to dislike Ledley, because on TV they dont see the amount of off the ball work and closing down compared to those at games. They also dont see the movement off some players like some games you think Forrest done well the day getting into space, his movement etc was great if only we had just got the ball to him a bit more yet some other fans when like im reading on here after the game would be saying "Forrest was * *, he hardly touched the ball". There can be very different opinions.

Mate, I've had this problem also. I've flew over from Boston so many time to see the bhoys. Money isn't a huge issue but still an issue and the travel. Once it took me three days to arrive in Glasgow, because of the * weather! anyway * me off because every time. There is always one smart * with something to say about the "yank fan". How am I less of a fan because my parents decided to move from Dublin to Boston ? :38:

Exactly and that's what I'm meaning. Just because the person is American it doesn't make them any less of a fan than someone who is from Glasgow, Inverness or Arbroath (where I am from originally).

For me, as long as you feel the passion of a win, that gutting feeling of losing (especially in the bigger games) and will do you're best to follow the team when & how you can no matter what is what constitutes a fan.

    Where the banned people go.

Well I suppose my justification is similar to our traveling support for away fixtures. I mean those guys who go to France, Spain, Russia etc to see us in action. I just want to be there to see it happen in person. I want to be a part of the atmosphere. I want to sing and offer my support to the club. I save up all year long for it and that's why I go. They're special moments I spend with my father. I hope to have that kind of time going to Celtic games with my kids some day.
