The game today is'nt always about flair and going past players (although that would be nice) but about stopping the opposition from playing. People were saying the Swedish league was stronger than the SPL and Helsinborg won that last year so a 2-0 away win in Europe at this stage of the competition is a cracking result. They're not the best team we have ever played but most teams are going to put you under pressure for periods of the game on their own grounds so despite the critism of some performances l thought the whole team did well.

In the home leg we can set up attacking.

    Forster
    Matthews Rogne Mulgrew Izaguirre
    Kayal Wanyama
    Forrest Commons Samaras
    Hooper

Rest Brown and Ledley, Brown since hes carrying an injury and Ledley just because he plays just about every game and never gets rested.

6 games guaranteed, 8 if we make the last 16. Let's walk before we can run though lol.

Absolutely ecstatic with the result tonight. Our defending was shambolic at times but it's all about the result. Can't wait for next Wednesday now; I'll be there as we hopefully put a rubber stamp on progression.

Probably around 40/1. Some guy posted he had done the same earlier and said he got 50/1.

    Under Martin O'Neill W 7 D1 L16
    Under Lenny W 2 D 2 L5

The away record is as now banished.

Lenny is the European master, best away tactician we have had.

It may be the team, it may be the manager and it may be that the curse has passed, but now our AWAY EUROPEAN RECORD now no longer matters.

For any of our supporters who can only remember M O'N reign, and nothing before, this will be the start of our regeneration as a European force.

Caused more problems for ourselves than down to good play by Helsingborgs. Winning the ball and then giving it straight back to them. Charlie Mulgrew got caught time and time again ball watching and folk running off him. The midfield were doing likewise and we had more in the middle than them, yet they were finding space to play in (defence was deep and midfield pressing high up the park). Missed big Victor in there tonight. Thankfully we sorted it out for the second half, good changes made by Neil Lennon. Forrest for Kayal was spot on, stopped the left-back from getting forward(was giving us an awfy sare heid in the 1st half) and Shooders gave the guy a sare heid instead.

Much better in the second half, retained possession slightly better and created more than enough chances to end the tie. Sammy did everything right for the goal and then took the wrong option later on; goal and an assist from someone who is a great asset in European games. Big Herman Munster was outstanding; made the saves when required, collected the crosses and took pressure off the defence.

Another away win in Europe and 4 games unbeaten, ram that up yer * MSM. Going to be a struggle for them to right positives headlines for a change.

Lenny was our MOTM tonight tbh.
Forster, Sammy and Forrest played great and Commons's goal and assist were quality, but Lennon got everything spot on tonight.

I've criticised his subs loads before but all of them were 100% right tonight and his tactics worked. He's naive and inexperienced but the * Prince is getting better every day :celt_2:

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
First half, we looked flaky at best and rode our luck. Thank * for good fortune and Fraser Forster. If we make it through, he has already had his fee and contract wages paid for the duration.

Second half / Forrest inclusion, different team, and a better formation. Play like that, we will be ok.

    * delighted tonight. We rode our luck, but we have been due some. Second half we looked excellent in comparison. Let us not hide from the first half though. That was not good at all defensively.

No easy free kicks next week please Celtic. Too many given away tonight in difficult positions. One aspect that must be improved, as we can be punished there but thankfully were not tonight.

Lots of work still to be done. Strength and honour.

A fantastic result. Fraser Forster and Samaras were both excellent.

The one note of caution from tonight's game would be the centre of the defence. Sorry to say but when we come up against teams of a higher quality than Helsingborg we will get cut open at the back. The partnership of Rogne and Mulgrew just won't get it done at that level. If we finish the job against Helsingborg we MUST sign a quality centre-back.

    * brilliant result for us.

Such a bizarre game, they should have scored four or five goals in that first half yet in the end we also could have got four or five when Helsingborgs were pushing forward and tired towards the end of the game.

I can't quite believe we came out of that game with a clean sheet, thank * they couldn't hit a cow's * with a banjo.

Big Fraser Forster was immense tonight, he kept us in the game when we were losing the plot defensively.

Bringing on Forrest was a great decision, the wee man got us up the park and relieved the pressure for us.

Sammy with a terrific assist and goal, he was vital for us tonight. And what a finish from Commons.

    Just a great night.
