I don't understand all this negativity concerning playing Hooper up front on his own. He may not be a target man but he takes the ball down well, is strong, works hard and is always in the right positions. In Europe he's played there home and away against HJK and away to Udinese with good results, and he's played there domestically, when we beat Kilmarnock 6-0 as well as numerous huns games.

We don't have the right players for a 352. It's a struggle to find a partner for Mulgrew never mind three of them back there! On top of that, Matthews and Izaguirre are hardly like Agathe or other athletes that get up and down the wings.

Let's get 4 at the back and pack the midfield. We've got plenty of them.

Yeh I don't like us playing the 3-5-2, we are no where near as effective at that formation or as suited as O'Neils team (granted they had far better players). Stick with 4 at the back izzy-mulgrew-rogne-mathews is decent enough if we have the likes of wanyama/kayal, ledley and brown in front of them.

I agree, regarding the 3-5-2. We are nowhere near good enough at this stage to be playing such a formation in European games. It's easier to mask in the SPL, where the opposition is of rather poor quality, but we'll be found out on the big stage. I'm sure Lenny knows this. Or rather, I'm hoping he does.

4-4-2, or 4-5-1 if we're desperate, is the way to go in these games. Matthews, Rogne, Mulgrew and Izzy is a good back four.

    That's incredibly sexy. :icon_mrgreen:
My only criticism is , and I hate to go on about Brown and give him stick, but I would play Samaras ahead of him. 4-4-1-1 with Sammy behind Hooper.

edit: I'd play Stokes for Brown if he's fit.

Not playing Brown would be suicide, how can anyone not see how impotent we are without him after today and Aberdeen?

He has been * IMO in the last 2 games I've seen him play. I appreciate that many people oppose this view so let's not make this a Brown thread. I wouldn't be too annoyed if he were to start as I like him as a player and believe he drives us to victories when he's in the mood e.g. 3-0 in the last ever Celtic v Rangers game.

In the mood? Broony is always in the feckin mood, and he was in no way * against Helsinki bar one miss. If fit (and probably even if he isn't) Brown will start. If I could pick one player to play away at Helsingborgs I would pick Brown. With him in the team I am confident, without him there is a good chance we will be utterly dire.

Yeh Lennon said he wil be coming back to training on Sunday so he should travel. Will be fully fit and match sharp following the olympics, could be useful, esp in the home game with the bigger pitch and you would think extra possession we will have.

We all know that Brown will play if he is fit. He is the captain and Lenny's golden boy. I believe that Neil probably sees a little of his younger self in Brown and that is why he favours him more than any other.

The other players have also said before that the whole team functions better when he plays.

We have been utterly dire with Brown in the squad too as we have without him.
