This would be my team also but since Brown will likely start if fit then I would go with
    Forster
    Mathews--------Rogne----------Mulgrew--------Izaguirre
    ------------------------Wanyama
    Brown------Kayal----------------Ledley-------Commons
    Samaras

Yeah I too take issue with this.

In our recent history, the CLUB does not have a good away record. Admittedly, the current crop of players don't have a great away record, but its irresponsible to pigeon hole these players in with the past players, and make them feel, somehow, indirectly part of the failures of the past.

Sure, there was Utretch and Sion, but you don't do well in Europe unless you have experience in Europe. And those ties, regardless of them being failures, were successes in the sense that they gave us preparation. Look at Dundee United; they've been consistently finishing the league in a Europa League position for the past few seasons. Sure, they have been pretty poor in Europe for most of those seasons, but now they have experience in that arena, and Dinamo Moscow, a club who by all means should be putting Utd to the sword, were LUCKY to come away from Tannadice with a point.

Now back to Celtic, we had EL group stage action last year, and I think away from home we did alright. It was all good experience for the very same crop of players who play tonight. They've grown, Lennon has grown. The club has grown since Sion/Utretch, and we've evolved beyond comparison since WGS/MON, so lets not become disillusioned by history, but instead lets dream of a future where that away hoodoo is gone. And if any crop of players can banish that curse, I'll bet the current crop can.

I'll bet a team with Victory Wanyama and Beram Kayal in its midfield can go to any arena in Europe and give the opposition a game.

I'll bet a team with Commons' ambitious and often delightful long-range shooting, and the pace and trickery of Forrest, are not scared by a history of away failure at this club.

I'll bet that a team with not a man in charge but a HERO in Neil Lennon, can DESTROY these * Finnish minnows. * the astroturf, * the away record. We are CELTIC. AND WE ARE BACK! WE WILL BE IN THE GROUP STAGE OF THE CL THIS SEASON!!!!! Else I'll run a ring around Parkhead naked.

The thing with people being nervous and citing past teams records is that we are now in the sixth or seventh team where we can say "the poor (abysmal) away record is nothing to do with them"

In saying that, our last two away results were 1-1 to Rennes and Udinese where in Udinese we can count ourselves unlucky not to win. Tonight would be as good a place as any to start a new European away record and I don't see why not. Before the match last week all the talk was how they were in the middle of their season and would be match fit yet the longer the game went on it was them that looked by far the more tired team.

No stupid mistakes tonight and we should get the new European unbeaten record of to a start (well technically last seasons two draws would be the start but you know what I mean):icon_mrgreen:

^^^ too true about the mistakes.over the past few years it has been school boy errors which have gave us a mountain to climb.hopefully tonight we won't give the home team their customary early goal

Highly unlikely we will keep a clean sheet but the good thing is we seem to have the positivity and mentality to get one ourselves nowadays.

People like Kayal and Hooper are * desperate for CL action, if Kayal's plauying I don't think he'll let us lose. Can see him having an absolute stormer, we need him to take the game by its neck and just run the show.

We have an excellent keeper also and he's been on top form, well since he came to Celtic basically.

With Hooper up front we're always likely to score, I honestly reckon 2 or 3-1 to Celtic.

    EASY EASY EASY!!!

Schoolboy errors most probably due to nerves and this stupid "away curse". If we go over there tonight, full strength, full of confidence and grab an early goal I'm sure we'll win comfortably. Big Vic has to start in the midfield now after Saturday, my team would be something like this :

    ----------------------forster
    ----matthews----rogne----mulgrew----izzy
    -------broony----vic-----ledley----sammy
    --------------------commons----------
    --------------------hooper-------------

Kayal is close to being back at full sharpness but close isn't enough for tonight imo. Forrest to come off the bench late on and terrorise them with his pace and we should get the job done.

As long as we don't concede a goal in the first 10-20 minutes I can see us winning without a problem.

    Forster
    Matthews Rogne Mulgrew Izzy
    Kayal Wanyama Ledley
    Commons Hooper Sammy

    2-0 for the hoops. :celt_2:

Kayal is like Brown in the sense that his determination is outstanding and rubs off on the rest of the team.

Kayal has to start. He drives the team forward, can shoot from distance, can pick out a pass, skin someone every now and then and not to mention his brilliant tackling. Great player and probably our best player. He's fit now and simply has to start.
