Personally I believe this is yet another case of our board/PR team jumping the gun with regards to the supporters. Yes we all enjoyed our post-season party in Norwich and yes 'Don't sell McCourt' was in all of our heads for atleast 1 week.

However...Paul Lambert isn't Norwich manager, McCourt could indeed be sold! so what else is there for this fixture? Why play the same team twice in the space of 2 months? I just think it's utterly pointless and would rather we played Aston Villa in honour of Stan Petrov, which I believe would attract a bigger crowd and I'm fairly confident the great man could attend, not to mention Paul Lambert would again be the opposition manager and on paper Aston Villa do have a better squad than Norwich.

I am actually suprisingly delighted with how our pre-season schedule looks in terms of being based in mainland Europe and I appreciate that getting 3 games v Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Ajax is exciting but they just got it badly wrong for this 1 game.

    Thoughts?

Its only a friendly, was probably pre-agreed as part of the game down there, that they'd come here for cheap to get the free home friendly out the road.

i take it was some sort of agreement,
we'll play each other home and away.

thing is, we've got such a large squad, we need these games to assess the fitness of all our players.
and it will put some players in the shop window.

and the fans got on well with each other, it will, in time help in the proposal of Celtic entering the English league set-up.

Is there not a game with Villa taking place soon anyway? I'm sure I seen it on here.

Norwich are an EPL side. It will be a good pre-season workout for our players. I don't see what the problem is. :39:

I can't see a problem with it to be honest, will be a great day for both clubs.

same point as every other pre-season friendly to give players game time?

sure some are for money reasons but the players still get a game

If we hadn't played Norwich 2 months ago then it wouldn't be a problem but...I think you all miss the points I made, no matter.

Norwich are an EPL side with good pedigree.it not about past managers with ties
we made a lot of friends down that way,Norwich will want to be ready for there opening match aswell, they, as a club will be looking for opposition to play and no better than to come north and play the Scottish champions once again, its a day out for there fans and to sample the atmosphere at paradise.

no need to look into to deeply, take it as it comes :50:

I'm personally looking forward to the game.

Not looking forward to the 14 hour round trip however...

I have no disrespect against your club and I genuinely had a soft spot even before Lambert became your manager. It's just for the reasons I stated. I'll be at the game but I hope it's a good crowd as there's nothing worse than a half full Celtic Park for any game. I remember my Sunderland supporting cousin going to Celtic Park for a friendly 2/3 years ago and no doubt expecting a great atmosphere but there was something like 15,000 :56:so here's hoping it's better no matter the opposition :50:

Can't do any harm. Decent work out against some decent opposition.

Plus it's on the season ticket so perhaps get 30k.

Friendlies dont really mean anything anyone and they are really about getting players fit and letting the fans enjoy themselves. I dont really think it makes much of a difference if it is against Norwich again or any other team. We know you will get good banter from the away fans and as it is on season ticket books we will get the same turnout regardless. It is also still one of the bigger games we are playing in pre-season. I dont really have any issue with it to be honest.

    Other way round for me.

I think Norwich is a good standard of team to be preparing against.

Playing teams the quality of Inter and Real could be counter-productive.

I agree. I don't think we learn an awful lot by playing teams of that calibre, we just end up chasing the ball for most of the match. I suspect playing teams like that has more to do with finances than football.
