Liverpool will move for Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer once his contract expires in June.
With Jamie Carragher having retired, Liverpool are looking to sign two centre backs and Schalke's Kyriakos Papadopoulos is a leading target.
Toure is in the United States as part of City's post-season tour but the proposed move to Anfield is likely to progress quickly once he returns.
The 32-year-old joined City from Arsenal in July 2009 for £14m.

The expected signing of the Ivory Coast international goes against the Liverpool owners' preference for buying youth and he would be the first player over the age of 24 that Brendan Rodgers has signed since taking charge at Anfield.
Toure only made 18 appearances for Manchester City in the 2012-13 season and was left out of their squad for the Champions League campaign.
He and younger brother Yaya Toure were part of the Blues' team that won the Premier League in 2012, the club's first title for 44 years.
However, his City career never recovered from a six-month ban during the 2010-11 season for taking a banned substance found in diet pills.

Papadopolous would be some coup for Liverpool.

Would be seriously underwhelmed and * off if I was an Everton fan then. Not only is his brand of football shocking, he is a complete * as well. Hope he never gets a job in the premier league again.

I've got a feeling (or hope) that the phrase, be careful what you wish for, is going to come into play here. Hope the * go down next season.

He has turned them from a league 1/championship team to EPL regulars comfortably and yet the fuckwits that follow them have turned against him. Pishy wee club with a large amount of bellends (not to mention racists) as fans.

I'm surprised to see Tony Pulis leaving Stoke. Pulis was keeping them up and he is unlikely to get a job at a bigger club than Stoke. That seemed like a marriage made in heaven.

I don't think he will yet but I'd say he will have suitors come November/December when teams have sacked their manager because they're in the bottom three.

Tony Pulis spent more money outside the top 4 in England? Pretty shocking when you think about it. Especially with the style of football they put on show.

All of the Stoke fans moaning about Pulis will be pining for him come the end of next season when they're on a downward spiral towards the Championship.

Pulis turned Stoke from an irrelevant club into one of the toughest away days in the country, no easy feat. If every team tried to play blinkered attacking football the league would be a lot less interesting.

This is one of the biggest misunderstandings about Stoke. They don't actually have a great home record if you look at it. They're the Britishiest of the Britishy teams and so the media like to pine on about a "cold night in Stoke" and how Messi couldn't compete, but their points total is distinctly average (worse than Newcastle's) and they have a goal differential in the negative, something only accomplished by 4 of the 17 sides which will be staying in the Premier League next year.

This season they've been poor at home, yes, but last season they only lost four of their home matches. The season before that, only the top four and Liverpool won more of their home matches.

They are a tough side to play against.

Even Tony Pulis can't handle a tough Wednesday night away in Stoke!

And the year before that they were above average for their position (along with Bolton) and the year before that their home record was truly, relegation-worthy awful. It's just a myth. In the last 4 years Stoke have only finished between 11th and 13th. Consistency is good when you're at the top, but there has to be advancement at that stage if, as one would be led to believe, they are an ultra-competitive club with one of the best home field advantages in the UK. It was time for a change, if only for their supporters' sanity.
