:56: Brilliant. Hope the * career is done

Why would you need to be rushed to hospital with a cruciate injury? Its hardly * life threatening. I`ve done my cruciate before. Wouldn`t wish it on many people but Terry is one I would

Paul Scholes will end his playing career at the end of this season.

Scholes, 38, previously announced his retirement at the end of the 2010/11 season, but made a shock return to the team on 8 January 2012 when he came on as a substitute in the FA Cup third round victory at Manchester City.

The midfielder was part of the new wave of talent that came through to the first-team during the mid-1990s, and has gone on to enjoy a long and successful career, making an incredible 716 appearances for Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Paul is a truly unbelievable player. He has always been fully committed to this club and it has been a real privilege to work with him for so many years. Paul will play at Old Trafford on Sunday against Swansea and will collect an unbelievable but well-deserved 11th Premier League medal."

Paul Scholes said: “Yes, I am finally hanging up my boots for good! Playing football is all I have ever wanted to do, and so to have had such a long and successful career at Manchester United, under the greatest manager of all time, has been an honour. The team has the right balance and will continue to thrive under the leadership of David Moyes.”

May be a legend Chelski wise but a mediocre player for me,I know it's a bit of a statement but take his goals away from that belter of a shot he has and there's not much there,a bit like Beckham with his free kicks and shots not a lot else

I don't like him but he is a very good player, very composed, hard worker, good shot, decent passing, good positionally.

He's a good player and apparently actually a good guy. Chelsea legend though so * him.

As you said a GOOD player not quite up there with the very best for me even though he has scored all those goals from midfield,I've always felt personally Steven Gerrard was a far better player in a worse side no matter who played for Liverpool he carried them for years

Definitely but his goalscoring is excellent and very consistent. I agree the likes of Gerrard are better, he's never been up there with the likes of him and Scholes but he is an extremely dangerous player nontheless.

Bit of a strange player to be honest; his goalscoring makes him a far better player than he actually is; if you get what I mean?

Lol, you're seriously comparing one of the Premiership's greatest midfielders in terms of statistics and longevity to a washed up 'celebrity' whose fame has more to do with his Spice Girl wife than his football talent? A player who hasn't competed at the top level for over half a decade?

    Aye, right.

I find it a bit strange that you are dismissing him so readily, he's easily on par with Scholes and Gerrard, and arguably better.

Fair play if you fall into one of the three camps, clearly no one will fall into Lamps' camp around here, but backing one of the three and dismissing the others as inferior strikes me as being very short sighted.

Let's not forget when looking at those stats, Scholes is 4 years older than Lampard and 6 years older than Gerrard.

It's easy to say 'stats are irrelevant', etc, but these three are the only 'great' Premiership midfielders that have lasted the distance and are still competing today.

People like to wax lyrical about Xavi and Iniesta, but Lampard and Gerrard compare very favourably to them.

(The above stats are from club + country)

As far as the last few seasons are concerned, Lampard edges Gerrard in the Premiership.

People keep arguing that Gerrard plays on a poorer team, which is a fair point, but the statement that he is 'more important' to Liverpool's success simply doesn't stack up.

The argument that Gerrard was a better player at his peak is an interesting one, but Lampard has been the more consistent player and has a big edge in terms of longevity.

At the end of the day, comparing the greats is fruitless for me, and if you (not you specifically, Devlin, generally) dismiss Lampard as anything other than a great, you're delusional.

Jesus *, did you just compare Frank Lampard to Xavi?

Not a chance in *. He is nowhere near the genius.

Like I said, very effective, very dangerous player but he isn't on the same level of all round play than the others.

Also seen they're comparing him with Iniesta :56:

    Jesus christ.

You have a nerve comparing Fat Frank to Xavi and Iniesta. Seriously mental.

Lampard is a glorified Kevin Nolan and an inferior player to both Scholes and Gerrard.
