80 million pounds of debt, however it's structured well. We make profit commerically, through the biggest kit deal in the UK, and one of the biggest sponsorship in the UK. We're let down with us not being in the CL, and we do pay too much on wages, however it's nothing much to worry about, assuming we progress our team.

Reportedly we're somewhere between the 5-7th most supported club in the world.

The stadium is far from *, mate. 45K seater, soon to be about 60-70K seater, which will sell out week-in-week-out.

We're a bit crap team-wise currently, but every team goes through patches like this.

We're still one of the biggest clubs in the world.

They have added £22m to the debt though I stand corrected to an extent as I thought is was far more.

The stadium is *. The away end and the stand where the camera's point from as not good. Soon to be 60 - 70k ? Is this certain cos I've not heard that.

I accept you have a large w/w fanbase but its nowhere near United. Not even close. In fact I think Arsenal (surprisingly) are reputed to have more.

If they do get this new stadium though it will plunge them back into the hundreds of millions again unless they dont own it.

They are a big club known worldwide.

I think part of their problem is that they are outpriced in the transfer markets. When you compare them to the likes of the money that Chelsea and Man City have they will never be able to compete.

Im not saying their squad is bad but its not brilliant. They lack am edge though and are very inconsistent.

To me they will never really compete with the big boys unless a majorly rich owner takes over and they will sign better players.

Yeah, we're confirmed to extend our stadium, and I think it'll be somewhere in the 60K's. I think Arsenal's is bigger than ours, but that's not exactly a failure, Arsenal are huge, too.

Personally I don't think FSG will win the league with us, we'll improve, finish top 4 then just maintain for as long as possible.

FSG don't have the money to fund us to win the league, they'll be chuffed to bits for us to finish top 4 every season, without spending much and earning them a slight profit.

They want us to be Arsenal.

I am not a fan of theirs.

You're extending Anfield? Which part? There is not much room to do that there iirc. I take it they will build up the way on the away end and the one where the camera gantry is?

I cannot foresee Liverpool winning the league in the next two decades, but that doesn't mean they aren't a huge club.

Like Man United nowadays, in their heyday Liverpool attracted plenty of support throughout the UK and Ireland because of their success.

To my mind, Manchester United and Liverpool are the only clubs in England that truly transcend their regions. There are only seven clubs in England that have maintained an average gate of in excess of 30,000 over the course of their histories: Man United, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, and Everton.

These seven are unquestionably the biggest clubs in England historically in terms of fans, but because of their unique periods of dominance, United and Liverpool's support bases are far broader than the other five clubs.

In the case of Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, their support has always been predominantly London/Home Counties based. Newcastle, predominantly North East of England. Everton, predominantly Merseyside based. All five have huge supporter bases, but they are far more concentrated than United and Liverpool, who literally have droves of fans in every corner of the country.

Schalke haven't won the Bundesliga since the second world war, but they're still a massive club. If Liverpool (and I suspect they will) go without a league title for over half a century in a similar manner, they'll still be a huge club.

Liverpool are the English Schalke, in that sense.

Spell isn't the right word for it, two decades doesn't constitute a 'spell' for me. More of an era, or even, an age.

I think the fact that they've still won major trophies in the past decade means that currently, they are going through a bad spell, rather than an era.

I think some people just want them to accept the mediocrity that they currently find themselves in and be content with that, but they won't and they never have or will. That's why they will keep on coming back. Heard all this "they'll go the same way as Nottingham Forrest" in Houlliers last season and a year later they won the CL. Average team, yes. Average Club, Definitely not

Liverpool are a huge club. I would say them an U and Celtic are probably the biggest 3 clubs in the UK. They have arguably the greatest history of any British club,Man U have only recently broken their record for league wins and they have a fantastic european history. One of the best there is. There stadium is surprising small for a club like them though, but I can't see how you can say they aren't a big club.

You probably couldn't have forseen man city winning it 10 years ago though. Alot can change in 2 decades. If I were an arab sheik with billions of dollars of oil money who was looking to invest in a football team liverpool would be a very tempting option. They have one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in the world and probably wouldn't cost a great deal like man united for example.

I cannot see their new owners leaving, though.

They've got the resources to stick around long term and whilst they won't pour in the amount of money necessary for an immediate league challenge, they seem a lot more stable than the last crop of yanks.

Anything is possible, even with the current owners, but I just can't see them competing at the very top, and even if they were to break through once or twice, their days as a top force in English football a la the 70's and 80's are long dead. No club can sustain that sort of dominance nowadays.

That, I think, is what riles up most of the people who dislike Liverpool. That air of arrogance, viewing themselves well above their station on account of 'istoree' that most weren't even alive to witness.

Not all Liverpool fans are like that, but plenty are. As with any club, the idiots tarnish the level headed ones by association.

lots of people on here talking about worldwide fanbases but to me those aren't incredibly important. Obviously they are huge moneymakers but as far as the English teams go (at least in America, I can't speak for elsewhere) the fanbases don't show much loyalty. A couple of years ago Liverpool was the most common kit I saw but now its between Chelsea and Man U and I'm starting to see a large number of Man City kits aswell. The bottom line is that success will sell kits and international fanbases will always fluctuate greatly so even though Man U might have a huge overseas fanbase currently if Liverpool's fortunes turn around they would quickly get on the same footing internationally as United imo or even better if United's fortunes fall.

Why do celtic fans think they are this big massive huge club who should be winning everything etc ?

They have a * stadium and team for a start. Havent won a european cup for * knows how long and yet they are all still stuck in the 60s thinking they are world beaters.

Footballs moved on and it's time they moved on aswell and accepted that they are nothing more than a top 50 (at best) european football side.
Their arrogance really bugs me. :icon_mrgreen:

It's widely acknowledged that Man Utd fans at OT have changed since the 80s.

Their success in the BPL has brought about 000s of gloryhunters much in the way Liverpool did in the 80s.

Add this to the fact fans in general have changed and become more 'middle class'.

Abramovich should have took over Liverpool. Imagine it was them who had that money from him, as they were already a lot richer than Chelsea and would be even richer now than Chelsea are. Would have been great to see Man U, City and Liverpool all going for the title against each other.
