I think it's on the cards, I reckon next season it will be announced that there will be a merger of the English and Scotish leagues to form a BRitish premier league. The reason is because with Celtic in the league as well as your bitter rivals there are more top quality matches like the 2 that have been on today. Far too often there are rubbish games between the likes of Wigan and Blackburn for example. While these games are still decent games they are no match for big teams playing each other.

Not just presuming btw that you would want to pack up your own league but would you like there to be a merger?

Rafael was petulant and deserved to go, but Luiz was a joke.

Absolutely vital win, fantastic play by the Brazilians to set up the goal.

A draw would of been useless today, we needed the three points and we got them. A bit of breathing space over Spurs, but still two tough games to come after midweek so nothing is for certain yet.

I was very surprised to see Rafael kicking out, I didn't think he was that sort of player.

This has been discussed for over a decade now and we are no further on to joining. If it came down to a vote, a lot of EPL chairmen would probably vote against us joining in case we eventually take their place in the league.

Also, I would miss the European nights each season as I doubt we would qualify each season for the first few years. It would be interesting to see how we would do after a few years of EPL Sky money and against higher quality opposition but I just can't see it happening.

Playing Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Newcastle, Everton etc would more than make up for not having any European games. Those games would be even bigger and better.

I would gladly give up a season of European football if it meant we got to join the EPL, or a new British Premier League was formed.

    Wishful thinking though.

The reason I think you will be allowed in is because you will make the prem more valuable to the club owners. Like I said there will be more top quality games to view on tv and therefore sell abroad. You also say that club chairmen wouldn't allow you but at the end of the day it comes down to morals if you like. Who are the likes of Wigan and other small clubs with no support who make zero contribution to premier league revenues, and with no support to vote no against yourselves and your rivals from joining the prem. You fans deserve the place in the prem so you can compete in Europe which a club of your stature deserves. Celtic in the prem would contribute to the prem, and the Champions league is being restructured at the end of next season. At the end of the day football is about fans it is a socialist instating and winning is not the be all and end all of being a fan it is about watching good quality competitive football. It is about supporting your team like fans of other clubs do, you may not sing of the same hymn sheet as them, but the one thing we all are is hard working football fans. I also think we will have a 22 team prem, you wait and see what happens.

No doubt the standard of football would be far better. But if you compare qualifying for the KO stages of the CL by beating Man Utd with a wonder goal and a late pen save to beating them 1-0 in a one off league match, I would probably remember the CL game more fondly.

Don't get me wrong, if we were ever invited to join, it would be very tempting but I can't see it happening. :54:

How about having the finances to get to the final and beat united by a wonder goal, like I have said not saying you should sell your soul by biting the fruit that the prem could offer, but wouldn't that be even better?

It would be good if clubs who get all that sky money suddenly adopt the German model and have cheap tickets with standing areas and maybe being able to drink as well. I would definitely like to join if that happened.

If the EPL done that, then it would be great for all fans. Having looked at some of the ticket prices at Chelsea and Arsenal for example, it tells me that some clubs don't really care about fans who don't make a lot of money.

    Here is an interesting article.

Rip off! How can a Bayern Munich season ticket cost £104 when Arsenal charge £126 for a game?
    9 Mar 2013 22:30
Germans are able to subsidise their tickets through record-breaking commercial income - an area the Gunners are lagging behind

Different league: Bayern have taught Arsenal on and off the field
    Laurence Griffiths
Arsenal were given a football lesson on their own Emirates pitch last month by Bayern Munich.

And on Wednesday night, when the Gunners go to Bavaria for the second leg of their last-16 clash 3-1 down, they will see first hand how much there is to learn off the pitch from the runaway Bundesliga leaders and German football in general.

Gunners fans travelling to the 70,000-capacity Allianz Arena will encounter an entirely different football model where Bayern fans can buy a SEASON TICKET to stand for just over £104.48 with the most expensive season ticket seat priced at £561.

By contrast, Gooners fans must fork out between £985 and £1,955 to guarantee their place at the Emirates for a season, but that price includes seven cup or European games.

It is the same story with matchday tickets with Bayern prices ranging from £13 to £60, while Arsenal fans pay between £25.50 and £126.

Bayern’s cheap tickets are subsidised by their record-breaking commercial income which represents 55 per cent of their turnover.

Arsenal’s commercial earnings of £52.5million (22 per cent of turnover) are less than a third of Bayern’s.

The Londoners make up for that with gate and other matchday receipts of £95m which dwarf Bayern’s £69m, bigger TV money plus transfer profits in recent seasons.

German engineering: Bayern are virtually guaranteed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals

But many Gunners fans fear a financial model which leans so heavily on matchday income and player sales is not sustainable.

German fans also get free rail travel to matches with their tickets. And under the 50 per cent+1 rule, the fans are guaranteed majority ownership of their clubs.

Bayern, who have been in two of the last three Champions League Finals, are 82 per cent owned by their members. The other 18 per cent belongs to sponsors Adidas and Audi. Daniela Wurbs, chief executive and co-ordinator of Football Supporters Europe, appreciates why Premier League fans in England are envious of how football is run in the Bundesliga.

Daniela, a fan of St. Pauli, said: “Bayern Munich’s policies in relation to affordable prices, standing areas and the supporters’ involvement in the club have attracted much interest and favourable comment from English fans in our membership.

“But the reality is that almost all Bundesliga clubs have more sympathetic pricing policies for their fans than in England and give supporters far more say in the decision-making at their club thanks to the 50+1 rule.

“This brings a sense of partnership and belonging to Bundesliga fans which is harder to find in the Premier League where many clubs are owned by rich individuals and overseas consortia. Season ticket prices at the lowest end of the scale in Germany can be bought for just over £100 for standing areas and the ability to attract supporters of varying incomes has made the Bundesliga not only the best supported league in Europe but also one of the most vibrant and exciting for the fans.”

Wurbs added: “There have also been more opportunities in Germany because of both the ownership model for supporters to take part as equal partners in dialogue with their clubs.

“The Bundesliga may not be perfect, but I know from our members that many English fans are envious of the deal their German counterparts get.”

Bayern are the world football’s biggest generator of commercial income with £172.5m last year and they have also generated a profit for TWENTY successive years – something top Premier League clubs can only dream about.

And the appointment of Pep Guardiola (above) for next season on a £7.5m salary – roughly the same as Arsene Wenger’s – seems to show that Bayern are determined to become the top club in Europe.

Of course that would be brilliant and I am not completely against the idea. I will just believe it when I see it as this subject has been brought up a lot of times before.

Fair play, I understand where you are coming from, but I think tbh you will be playing some of your football south of the boarder sooner than you think.

Think tbh far too much has happened with regards to talk about the state of Scottish football and break always and also the predicament the Huns and the national team are in for it to just be all talk. With the money that the prem teams are going to be getting next season, they will want more clubs attracting large crowds with big appeal and also ambitions greater than staying in the prem to milk the cow to attract viewers and help secure the huge tv deals that are being done.

I like Jovetic, but he isnt much of a goalscorer. His record isnt bad, but I think Arsenal need a real predator to finish off the chances they create.
