Thommo parts company with Celtic

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by The Celtic Way, Jun 3, 2012.

  1. hope this sour feeling doesnt hang around too long

  2. No matter what angle you look at this from it's a sad moment- Whether its from a drinking problem point of view or he's a good mate of NL's or just the fact that Thommo is a legend from a legends team. Fair play to NL though- 18 months ago there was talk of a 'mentor' for him and he's just won the league hands down, been through a whole load of grief and had to sack a mate- He could mentor half of the country's managers himself after doing all that!

All the best to Thommo- Always will be a legend!

Shocked to hear of Thommo's leaving today or being told to leave. I have always been such a big fan of his. Obviously none of us really know why he is gone as of yet for sure. For me if it is due to problems off the field I can only hope he is able to get things sorted with or without help. Alan Thompson is and always will be great Celt for me and I wish him nothing but the best whatever has been going on for him in his life.

  3. Agree totally Hx2

  4. Disappointed that a man of his status is dismissed and weve not been told why

  5. Maybe he was a bad influence on Juarez lol,

joking aside i want to wish thompson all the best for the future, he's been a great servant to our club

  6. Agree but.....

Agree but..... thats Lenny's style, he is his mate, it's went Pete Tong, I will deal with it.

  7. No matter what the reason i'm dissapointed the story has come out in the way it has. This sort of thing should be dealt with in house :52:

  8. hearing steve clarke is on his way.

  9. Heavy rumours circulating this could happen ,would be surprised at the speed this is moving if true .

  10. The club would certainly be better off if we recruited him :50:

I don't for one second believe Neil Lennon would call time on Thompson's coaching here if he was struggling with an alcohol problem. He'd probably give him some time out and support him in every way possible, Neil Lennon knows what it's like to have problems while in a job. Such as depression and fearing for his life. Admittedly, none of them are self-inflicted but a problem's a problem.

How can we say it's poor from the club or from Lennon in particular if it was a drink problem anyway, who's to say Lennon and the board haven't tried to support Thompson but he's not helping himself. Who's to say Thompson's drinking has any relevance to his sacking at all. It's all good being friends but maybe there's someone that can bring a lot more to the table than Thompson.

I don't doubt Thompson has contributed to our success this season and the building of this good squad and I wish him all the best. I think it's best waiting for the facts, rather than claiming the board, Neil Lennon or Thompson is at fault.

  12. Good post ,i agree with most of wot you say although i cant see lenny replacing one of his chosen staff for someone else with better credentials ,he wouldnt be looking to change in that area ,unless something pretty major happened to force his hand .
