Gonna hazard a guess here. The fact that Ki has been used in the official photos to model the new away strip would suggest he is NOT one of the 6 that have apparently been told that they are for sale, or otherwise surplus (as some have suggested).

 

Even if Celtic were looking to sell, which i don't think we are, now is not the time to do it. Extend his contract by a year/two. He has been in and out this season due to injury, going off to play for S.Korea and because the midfield in general has played very well.

Thinking logically why sell him now if you want to sell him, give him his opportunity to shine in the CL and then think about selling a player, once their stock rises. I don't want to sell him but those wanting to should think about maximizing a players value.

 

Don't think Ki was ever gonna be one of the 6 but if we were to get a good offer in for him then he'd be for the off as he's easily the most expendable player in the squad who we could get good money for.

Agree with this. All the hype about ki has given him this ability if he makes a simple pass or scores a goal its an absolute top drawer cracker that is second to none. Rubbish he is a very average player nothing about him stands out. His technical ability probably isnt as good as a few of the youth teams.

 

Could someone get stats for me as i have no clue wer to begin with things like this. Stats of ki's goals he has scored what games aginst who and the final score? Much appreciated if anyone does

 

I'd rather have an electric haggis than a dead duck(which is what Ki often is).

 

He has played in Europe and was rubbish. Anyone remember the Sion game? Or maybe thats not a high enough level for him.

Thats perhaps the problem, maybe he needs to be at a club like Barca to show his true potential.

Seriously what is this passing all about ?? He passes left and right and often to the centre backs. Why do people see this as great amazing second to none passing ?? His passing is very very average. His passing is not a stand out attribute. This great technical ability he supposedly has is utter tripe. Why he is so over rated amazes me. People promised so much by hype cant seem to accept it just isnt coming through.

 

I feel the same as you, I just can't see this fabled technical ability that Ki is alleged to possess, all I see is the same sideward or back passes that the manager Lennon used to do in his playing career. I do not see see these defence splitting or advanced slide rule passes that his supporters allege he is capable of, I have been watching this guy closely for three years now, and * knows when they see these great through the eye of a needle passes they rave about. Like you I will be raging if any of our big name players are sold before Ki.

He might well fit in with Barca what with all that "Tiki Taka" that they do.

This is my thoughts exactly.

Quality players like Ki and Emilio are very unlikely to stay forever, but to offload them just before they finally have the chance to shine in the CL?

This is the big stage, that will show the world just how good our players are. If we're going to sell them, we'd be stone crazy to do business at the puny prices some folk are suggesting.

I still remember folk telling me five years back how they would "bite yr hand off" if offered 4 million for Aiden McGeady. Selling Ki or Emilio for that type of sum seems the same to me now as selling McGeady did back then.

 

I don't know why Ki is suddenly up for this much criticism, he wasn't even playing recently. He's contributed well when it comes to goals & assists, considering the consistency of him being selected. Not bad at all for a CM.

I won't argue that he still needs to work on the defensive side to his game, especially tracking his man. I think his best position is deep, where he can sit and spray the passes from there. Just picking up the ball from our defence and turning it into attack. The fact he remains deep, means he's usually goal-side of his man as well and he benefits from that greatly. I'm not sure it's a role we can accommodate though.

He's young and there's plenty time to improve the parts of his game that is needed. It wouldn't be the end of the world if he was sold because our midfield is packed with quality but I certainly wouldn't be looking to get rid of him just yet. We may go on to regret it. We should wait until his value has increased even further anyway, while trying to get the best out of him.

The fact remains though, how can you say he's an accomplished player (which even I wouldn't agree with at the moment) and then go on to say that he's average.

 

Some posts on this thread make me weep. To say Ki has no technical ability (i.e footwork, ball control, striking the ball etc) is outrageous .

 

Comparing Ki to Emilio and McGeady is a bit ridiculous, both those players won player of the year and performed brilliantly. Ki came in with a bunch of hype and hasn't delivered yet.
