What exactly is this mythical technical ability that Ki is supposed to possess? Is it a great touch, a wee trick to beat a man, a defence splitting pass because I dont see any of that. What we have in Ki is someone who is fairly pedestrian, tends to play the ball sideways a lot, doesnt tackle or header very well and is a spare part in midfield when we are under pressure.

Technical? I dont see it. Stokes has better technique all round in terms of touch and control, Mulgrew and Commons have better delivery as well.

Anthony Stokes is, without doubt. Mulgrew and Commons not so much, Mulgres delivery is better but I don't think there's much difference between Ki and Commons.

    Ki's corners are excellent.

Ki dozen't have any technical ability, he is just an average footballer with average skills. Three years here, nearly 100 games in, and none of this legendary technical expertise has emerged on show. When we play with Ki in the team it is a like a man down, the two Cup losses proved that all over again.
Same old Format. Losing the arguement, so dredge up some old posts from two or three years ago that no longer have any relevance to the present circumstances, and try to make them topical again :56:

Ki's corners are dreadful and are much worse than both Commons and Mulgrew. People who believe he has any deadball ability are just believing the hype Ki had when he arrived here, nothing he has done here has shown ability to hit a decent freekick.

The guy has undoubtedly shown himself to be a shitebag at times with his tackling. I see that from watching the Celts in the flesh week in week out, nowt to do with discussions round a water cooler.

Naivety is one word for it I suppose. Complete ineptitude is another.

We could sell Ki tomorrow, and we wouldn't be any worse for it.

what a silly statement that is

if you think thats true, then neither does any of our other CM's cause Ki is a better passer than the lot of them, and that comes under technical ability

im afraid that is * mate, he hits a decent free kick he just doesnt get much chance too. id go as far as to say when he takes a direct free kick he forces the keeper into a save around 3 times out of 4 which is good going. he hasn't scored one yet, granted, but he would have if he'd hit as much as mulgrew or commons.

I like ki but his corners are poor , commons has the best delivery from corners.

He's set up a good few from corners this year, always gets them right in the middle at the 6 yard box.

Mulgrews got the best delivery, without doubt. Only problem is Chico hasn't got Chico to aim at in the middle, he's also our best at attacking the ball in the opposition box.

Ki needs a League were he would get another Second on the ball ,he is a flair player who can play that pass but only if he gets the time ,He seems to like it here and Lennon has time for him ,but that time has moved on as Commons and Kayal are on the go again and the Midfield is dog eat dog ,I would say he has had his chance to be that flair player but he needed a bit of grit to go with it ,sadly he has'nt got that in his game for me.

His corners dip too early half the time and dont beat the 1st or 2nd man. Still think commons is the best specifically from corners, outfield mulgrews got the best delivery in britain.

    43 appearances this season
    11 from the bench
    8 goals
    6 assists

Not bad for a central midfielder I'd say.

    Last season:

    30 appearances
    8 from the bench
    5 goals
    5 assists

Showing improvement as well. Not as useless as people like to make out.

23 with 45 caps for South Korea, a good national team.

We should definitely sell Ki at the end of the season. One thing everybody has failed to mention is he does nothing for the look of the team. His hair style is sooooo boring and compared to Samaras I would go so far as to call him ugly. Does he even have a girlfriend? His boots never make him stand out either, it is no wonder we always lose when he is playing. In fact it is so important to rid ourselves of him we should cancel his contract now.

After dredging through this all once again I am astonished at the blinkers put on by some people and absolute refusal to consider the opposite argument, plus the ridiculously hilarious defence of his tackling by one poster.

I think it is fair to say that Ki's passing range is hugely overestimated by many on this forum. It is true that he can dictate tempo and has decent vision for a pass but very rarely are these defence splitting or chance creating. Even in dictating play he can impact on the team negatively by ensuring we play a slow patient game when we get better results at a quicker tempo. His passing is therefore largely ineffectual in an attacking sense, meaning he is ill suited to playing as an advanced playmaker. McCourt, Commons, McGeouch and Ledley are all much better at using the ball.

His set pieces also flatter to deceive. Correct me if I'm wrong but has Ki scored a free-kick for us yet? In how many attempts? his return for a supposed dead ball expert is worse than woeful. His corners too are worse than those from Mulgrew, Commons, McCourt, McGeouch and even Matthews is probably on a par with him. His shooting from distance can be blistering but is often wasteful - he hasn't scored from outside the box in months but tries it at least twice a game when he starts, often when there are better options.

Defensively he is atrocious. His tackling is either non-existent or wildly over-zealous, to the point where I feel I'm watching the tackling prowess of Vennegoor of Hesselink again. He is also very negligent in tracking the runs of opposition players, sometimes not even bothering which, for a central midfielder, is inexcusable. I remember in the Dunfermline game at home when he missed his penalty, he was the second furthest forward player on the pitch, only Hooper being ahead of him, and was lightly jogging back while Dunfermline had the ball at the edge of our box. Stokes and McCourt had both run back to cover Ki's laziness. To me it seems he is interested solely in the fun attacking remit of his job and couldn't care less for the defensive side.

In terms of other players, people are always first to claim that Ki, even as a central midfielder, shouldn't need to defend yet get on McCourt's back for not tracking back when his role means he isn't as required to do so. It is double standards made worse by the fact that Paddy is technically far superior to Ki in every department and just as quick.

I have said many a time I think Ki has talent I just don't think he does enough, therefore I would happily sell him.

He is still only 23, quite hard to believe as he has been here for 2 and half years now. I'd say he has progressed at Celtic although he isn't starting every-game by any means. He shows up better for South Korea than he does with Celtic, World Cup 2010 probably a highlight for him with 3 assists in the group stage. I think he will be the 1st player looked at by Celtic to be sold for good £ should we want or need it. He would do better in a top league imo where he wouldn't be as hassled by defenders like he is in the SPL.
