    really?????
this season has proved La Liga is the best team in the league. Barcelona and Real both scored 7 in a CL knock out stage match and both are still in. Only 1 EPL team is still in Europe, thats including Europa League too. The EPL Champions got completely outplayed and outclassed, in both legs, by 8th placed Athletic Club. The only reason the Prem is even uttered in the same sentence as 'best in the world' is Sky.

The best player ever to play the sport is playing in Spain and will do so until he retires. The 2nd best player currently playing left England for Spain and most of the World Cup winning team play in Spain. EPL may be exciting but, which i dont think it is especially- the Bundesliga and Eeredivisie are both much more exciting, but it's nowhere near the best.

    You’ve contradicted yourself here.

  4. Exactly my thoughts.

I'm not denying he was a great player but right now he isn't and his past achievements don't change that.

He is still playing well when he's playing though. Its not like hes not playing well now, the only problem is he has been injured a lot but when playing he doesnt seem to have got much worse if at all.

Same could be said for Puyol. Still great but doesn't play as much as he used to but isnt playing bad when he does play.

  5. Puyol has played 32 games and scored a crucial goal against Madrid and defended like a beast all season. He's still number 1 for me .

Gerrard has been ok. A few good performances here and there.

Puyol is far more dedicated to Barca than Gerrard is to Liverpool. Ridiculous comparison. Carlos is one of the most admirable defenders of his generation. I can only think of Richard Dunne who I see as more heroic and a better leader.

  7. Gerrards still scored 16 goals in his last 44 games too. Which is still atleast 2nd best in England behind Lampard, even though hes not started many of them and been injured while playing or coming back from injuries. His impact hasnt suffered the same as Puyols.

  8. How has it suffered mate? I might be reading that post wrong but are you suggesting Puyol has been poor?

  9. No, im saying what your saying about Gerrard could be said of Puyol.

Your basically criticising Gerrard as past it and not as good now because hes been injured a lot the past season and this season. Even though he isnt playing bad or when playing doesnt seem to be worse. Just like Puyol, Puyol has also been injured a lot this season and last like Gerrard though he isnt playing any worse.

Im basically saying because theyve been injured doesnt mean theyre not as good. Their performances have shown no signs of being past it all thats happened is theyve been injured.

  10. Puyol has still put in world beating performances and Gerrard hasn't except from a few exceptions.

Thank you for explaining your point mate.

Someone posted earlier in the thread about Gerrard and Alonso being in the Top 10.

If Gerrard and Alonso were in the top ten CM's in the world and they both played in the same team with one of the best strikers in the world (Torres) upfront, then they would have won a league title, which they haven't.

    Gerrard isn't top 10

At one point Mascherano, Alonso and Gerrard was the best midfield in the worl. Without doubt.

ILoveTheCeltic that is a great point about Puyol.

  13. When they were at their best Barcelona were running riot in La Liga and winning the sextuple. So I don't agree.

It was good but it wasn't the best in the world.

Sure liverpool put barca out in the the last 16 that season.

  16. I'd say United's was better. Ronaldo was coming into his own that year as well.

  17. Manchester United put Barca out. Scholes scored a peach the *.

Was Barca I'm sure. Can remember the game, Liverpool's pressing performance at the Nou Camp was incredible.

Would have loved to see the spine of Reina, Carragher, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres with players of quality round them.

Other CB, Full Backs and Wingers were always terrible when tey were all at their peak. All the same they came very close to winning the Premiership with that team.

I wouldn't say he was an actual midfielder. Played in a 424 the two being Scholes and Darren Fletcher.

That was a great team though.
