Steven Gerrard Question

On his day he is still top 10 to be honest. No chance is martinez, sahin, wilshere, modric, hamsik, parker, ganso and the likes are nowhere near as good as Gerrard. What hes pish because he was injured for 7 months ). The players above have had a decebt season or two and could be at gerrard level but they arent currently. The best premier league player ever hands down.

 

No he doesn't.

Gerrard plays centre midfieder. When he played in a similiar position 2-3 years ago with Fernando Torres he hit 20 goals for the season and a similiar amount of assists.

Something I can't see Silva or Ozil doing even though they are far better technically. Other aspects of the game not so much, especially the defensive side that Gerrard also excels at.

 

Gerrard is still a top player and his consistency easily puts him in the top 10 best midfielders in the world.

I'd have him in the top 3 between 2004 & 2007 - was immense then.

 

Roy keane was a better player.

 

great player pity about the injuries though.

 

He's been used as a centre attacking midfielder and played as a second striker many times over the last few seasons.

Your entitled to your opinion but I think Ozil and Silva are better than him.

He hit twenty goals on top form. He's not as good now.

 

Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Henry and Bergkamp. Are/were all better than him.

 

He's scored 16 goals in his last 44 games. More than Silvas 13 goals in 90 games and more than Ozils 13 goals in 89 games

 

In a worse team.

Boyd and Larsson.

 

I know I saod Liverpool weren't great a few pages back but it's not as if they're Dunfermline.

Plenty of good players in that team.

 

I know, like I said they are different styles. Ozil and Silva are playmakers/forwards/wingers not centre-mids or attacking mids.

If you were comparing Gerrard to his style of player you'd compare him to Lampard, Ballack, Van der Vaart, Rivaldo, Schuster, Socrates, Scholes. Players like Silva, Ozil, Mata, Messi, Platini, Zico have always been a seperate style of player, who although play in a similar position arent "goalscorers" but creators although the likes of Messi, Zico and Platini were that great they scored 20-30+ a season anyway just by being so good.

 

That's a silly argument. Gerrard sets up more and scores more; he has more to his game than a player like Kris Boyd.

Players like Silva and Ozil have more to their games than players like Kris Boyd.

If you want to look at all round play who would you rather go into a 50-50 tackle or be the player running back to make a last ditch tackle, either of them two or Steven Gerrard?

He scores more, he creates more, he is better defensively, he is better in the air, he is more powerful.

David Silva and Ozil are faster and are better passers at controlling the game. I would say there is nothing really between Silva and Gerrard, not so much Gerrard and Ozil.

 

Its silly that you thought I was comparing Steven Gerrard - European Cup Winner to Kris Boyd.

I was just using that as a example of goals aren't everything.

 

A player like Boyd I said. You compared Boyd and Larsson, that is not like comparing Gerrard and Silva or Gerrard and Ozil because all of them are fantastic players with a * of a lot to their game.

Off topic but Boyd's top SPL goalscorer record is bullshit. Larsson scored more league goals in Scotland than Boyd did and did it in a shorter period of time.

Boyd's record doesn't take into account Larsson's first season at Celtic as it wasn't an SPL season, it was the old Premier League. So in terms of league goals in Scotland, Larsson has scored more than Boyd.
