Infact just answer this, do you think a striker should do more than just score goals?

Pep Guardiola is the manager and plays predominately with a false number nine (reason they signed Goetze) whereas Gomez had 1 year left on his contract and they prob knew they were gonna get Lewandowski anyway. Sell him and get £20 million or let him leave on a free to a team you will not play?? easy decision.

I do think Bergkamp was better but was Andy Cole but was Cole sold off the back of a prolific season like you suggested with Gomez?? No.

A striker's job is to get themselves into goal-scoring positions and score goals.

Looking up the stats of the 2003-04 season, only on the 24th of January and Larsson already has 21 assists :56: and theres 26 goals scored in the next 7 games.

He got 5 assists in those 7 games, now sitting on 26 assists on the 29th of February.

Right, why do you think Bergkamp was better than Cole? If he didn't score as many goals.

Then if thats all they've to do then Cole is better than Bergkamp, because Bergkamp didn't do that as much as Cole.

Btw, Cole got sold to Man United a year after a prolific season. He also left United for Blackburn a year after a prolific season. I'm not saying these players are bad players, I'm just saying strikers need to get involved in the game, not just float about until they can stick the ball in the net.

I'm sure Larsson holds the record for most assists in the SPL ever.

    Bergkamp wasn't a striker.

Cole was replaced at Man Utd. He left Newcastle for a bigger club clearly different to Gomez.

If you want your forward to do more than 'stick it in the net' then you play them in a different position. (Centre forward, Second Striker,False 9 etc)

No, you don't. Henrik Larsson is the best example for this I think, he was that good because he done everything in his power to get the team to win. If a teammate was in a better position for him to score he'd set them up, if he needed to occupy a couple of defenders to let his teammate go through on goal he would. He didn't stop working, shutting down defenders, shutting down goalkeepers, taking the ball in and holding it up, helping his teammates out.

He had a phenomenal goalscoring record but he was much more than just a goalscorer, which is what you want your strikers to be. You want them working for the team, not just for there own goalscoring record. I'd much rather see the team win that for somebody like Stokes to get 50 in a season.

Larsson rarely played as an out-and-out Striker for Celtic. He was a 'complete forward' or a 'nine and a half' depending on who you talk to. What's certain is that he was one of the first to play the position well.

I think you are failing to understand that their are different roles for the same position in football.

No, I'm not. What you're doing is over complicating stuff by trying to make out if someone is playing a different role then it is a completely new position. It's not.

Where did Larsson play? Up front. What was Larsson? A striker.

And if you're a striker for Celtic you strive to reach the standard that Henrik set.

Just goes to show what a great all round player Larsson was.

Surprised Agathe didn't get more assists.

I tell you what - Thompson was far better than what I imagined.

His stats from 2003-05 were unreal. Great contributor to the team.

Is it possible to find out Larsson's total apps, starts, goals and assists with Celtic in all competitions?
