Indeed; it was Brian Quinn who warned against the use of EBT's.

I remember being annoyed when I was younger (and dafter!) about our apparent willingness not to spend.

Have to say, I'm glad that I've been proved utterly wrong, our club is on good foundations precisely because we started cutting our cloth accordingly!

Never have i held a grudge about The Bunnet, A legand in my eyes, came in done everything he said he would and for him to get booed raising that flag against Dumfermline was a disgrace. Am so glad to this day that i missed that game.

One of the most important people in our clubs history, alot of people believed what they read in the press back then, there where no such thing as internet forums or other ways to get information, alot of people in the media did not like Fergus and alot of fans believed alot of the bad press that Fergus got from certain journalists.

He may have walked away with a profit but he said he would from day one, Trusted nobody, ruthless and done it his way.

One day The North stand should be named after him, Think that would be a fitting trubute.

    Hail Hail the bunnett.

I think you should read Jock Brown's book, its an interesting take on events.

There were murmurs around the club, even when he just arrived, that Jansen was a very strange man that he was very difficult to talk to and seemed to have it in for Brown from an early stage.

Brown also claims he offered Jansen funds on umpteen occasions for players and he seemed like he couldn't be bothered identifying targets.

Not saying its all true, but there's 2 sides to every story.

For anyone to say the booing of Fergus was justified is absolutely ridiculous. Yes it seemed like we were going backwards after winning our first title in ten years but that doesn't justify the treatment he got that day - no where near it.

It should also been considered that Jock Brown is a total hun weasel and may of said these things because it eats at him that Wim Jansen stopped the 10, I know who's side I'm on there.

Fergus McCann, in hindsight can't be praised enough. He was stubborn but look at what he done in his five year plan. He should have a statue or something at the Celtic park he rebuilt.

He's a Celtic legend, he saved the whole club. He gave his word and stuck by it, he would save the club, add onto the stadium and make his money and split. He done exactly that, many would have stayed but he stuck by his word.

totally agree, and I think most of the staff at CP would agree too. not so sure If the bunnet would. It would be a brilliant gesture tho.

    if you think so buddy.

Bottom line he came in with his £1million and the celtic fans put their hand in their own pockets to splash the cash for the new stadium, mccann also said the irish fans were bigots and he never gave TB the backing he needed to stop the hun9 because he was thinking about his £40million profit once he * off. Businessman only, celtic fan never................

You may be right about that. Also in the Celtic history dvds Fergus says it would of been cheaper for him to let the club go into administration or liquidation and take over from there, but understood the history and did'nt want a new co. He basically took his bunnet off to the supporters.....

I hope celtic fans don't confuse the situation at ipox with what was good and what was bad about the bunnet. Two totally different problems...:50:

    I'm not picky.
The share issue HELPED toward the rebuilding of the stadium and if fans didn't agree with it they wouldn't have done it. Also at that time it was the most successful share-issue in the history of a British club with 10,000 taking up the offer of investing a minimum of £620 which helped raise £14m towards the re-financing of the club.

He helped expand the commercial base of the club.

He started the "Bhoys Against Bigotry" campaign.

He helped the planning for the youth academy by investing £1.5m.

He helped in overtaking Hun FC in a revenue basis.

He brought back the fans and we overtook Hun FC on an attendance basis.

Above is just a few of the things he done in helping bringing Celtic from the brink or bankruptcy and if he never thought about the business side of things first BEFORE the playing side then we would have been going down the same road that Hun FC has been travelling.

He may have done some things that fans may not have agreed on but what chairman/owner DOES get 100% backing 100% of the time with everything they do? Our current board still get hounded by some for "not putting their hands in their pockets" but with football now you have to have a board that needs to think about the money side of it and be "tight" at times and not overspend. If not then, well, look at Hun FC, Portsmouth and Leeds just to name three for not thinking about the monetary side.

The bottom line is he saved Celtic FC from going bankrupt and he set the foundation to become the club we are now.
