To think all those boys up in the corner used to boo the likes of Fergus McCann and Brian Quinn. Let's be honest we have had a succession of great chairmen and Chief Executives since we became a PLC. For one Fergus saved Celtic. And two, Brian told the club to forget even thinking about EBT's.

Rename the Main stand "The Bunnet" or the MCcann stand. He deserves it

was actually thinking of him today, the man had his heart in the right place and was a stubborn * not to give in to the pressure from celtic fans, looking at it with the whole hun fiasco perspective makes me respect the man that touch more

I was actually about to start a thread about us honouring him but saw searched 1st & found this... id love to get him over to unfurl the flag.. infact id go further & say he deserves his own statue at Paradise.

I was there the day he was booed & i cant remember a moment that i was so incensed with my fellow fans, although i think we shouild remember they where the minority that day albeit a very vocal minority!

I agree naming a stand after the bunnet or perhaps a statue.

It wasn't a minority, it was at least half the crowd.

There was reasons for the booing lets not forget that. Wee Fergus saved us of that there is no doubt, but he stepped on a lot of toes along the way and maybe he done us out of two titles with the ridiculous appointment of Jock Broon and the fiasco with Wim Jansen.

We didn't boo him because of what he done for the club, but because of what he was doing to the club at that point due to his nature.

History has been very kind to him and rightly so but to say you were incensed by the booing that day is to forget why it actually happened.

I was raging too with the booing, we were just about to unfurl the flag and booing started, Fergus had delivered everything he said he would and yet still fans choose to boo him.

I can remember being raging about the booing as well. As well as the booing of Brian Quinn.

That's great for you mate, but I just explained why it happened (imo).

Hindsight wasn't available that day, it came after the event.

You don't think that fans had a right to be * off that the manager who stopped the ten and brought us Henrik was forced out of the club by a commentator who happened to somehow procure a job as general manager of Celtic?

Fergus is a Celtic great but he made mistakes and the booing that day at that moment was entirely justified.

I was just delighted we had managed to stop 10 in a-row and was showing my appreciation for him and was * off with the fans who ruined what should have been a great celebration.

everyone makes mistakes but the good far outweighed those mistakes he was single minded but we benefited from that 100% so no sorry it wasnt justified in either case

Fergus imo is one of the most important Celts of all time: he saved the club from oblivion and it would be fitting if Celtic could do something to recognize what he did for the club. Not suggesting a statue, think we've got enough, but maybe perhaps name a stand after him? Its the least we could do, that way he would be forever immortalized! :50:

Being a bit * off was entirely justified. Booing a man ho had saved our football club and sank his money into the club to get us a team who would stop the ten when we were unfurling the flag? That was out of order.

For the life of me I don't know why Brian Quinn was booed either.
