Georgios Samaras

He was brilliant tonight, shows how much he has improved on a few years back, its great to see his name being sung around the ground throughout the game when 2 years ago he was booed. He was our best player tonight, showed passion and commitment, in my eyes he should be our captain, and I hope he stays with us until he retires

Tough shift for Sammy tonight. Every time he picked the ball up it seemed like there was 3-4 guys around him. Barca obviously learned their lesson from last year and targeted him as the danger man. His decision making is still below par though.

 

This exactly. He was great tonight but ffs Sammy when there are 4 Barca players round you dont try to beat them all. I mean if there is 4 round you then someone is unmarked. Look up man and pass it. He played his heart out though, so i wnt be too harsh.

 

3-4 guys around him cause he held on to the baw too long. There were many times he could have palyed a pass and moved it to commons or stokesy but just wandered allowing players to get into him.

As I said before can't fault his effort but he needs to link up better and pass more. Thats what the top players are good at.

 

I think they above were more to down to not being able to get the support to him, rather than holding onto it too long(at least from what I could see). This would apply to our play in general, even when Sammy wasn`t in possession of the ball. We got crowded out to often and couldn`t find an outlet to get away from the pressure being applied by Barcelona.

 

Posted this but thought I was harsh, 'his decision making is erratic to say the least'

 

His decision making is the thing that has always done my head in. Well, that and the fact he always side foots the ball when he gets the chance to score instead of putting his foot through the ball.

So many times Sammy will pick the ball up and beat one or two men then he has the perfect opportunity to play another man in but he holds onto the ball and tries to beat another couple. Even if he beats the other couple the momentum of the attack is lost. It's so * frustrating.

He can do things no other player in our squad can but I still find it hard to love him.

You could clearly tell the Barca players were told to watch him, there was definately two players on top of him all the time, never really got a chance to run with the ball, i think he should have ran down the wing and hit the touchline more in the game but never really did it much until last couple minutes.

Was outstanding tonight though, i have a wee crush on him, said before game if we won and he got man of match or scored i would name my first born child with Samaras in middle

I thought he was awful tonight but whatever. Nobody played well going forward

 

I know this must have been said a million times but what a player he has become for us, it wasn't that long ago the majority of us didn't rate him at all.

 

The outlet from that situation is to pass ball. It's like the same in hockey. First pass when you have got the ball is the most important. He never delivered it.

I like him but i thought that he was more like playermake stylish player.

 

The image of Samaras sprinting towards four Barcelona defenders in the first half will make me smile for a long, long time.

 

Nobody can fault his effort and determination last night, he put in a great shift. And I like the fact he was prepared to take the game to Barca, and willing to have a run at them.

However, his decision making at times is woeful. When he has 2 and 3 men around him, he has to lift his head and release the ball. If there are a few men on him, then he has to be smart enough to know that we have men spare in other areas of the park.

 

He was guilty of losing the ball at time due to over-doing his runs. But overall he was the only potent threat for us on the night. Commons and Stokes gave nothing attack-wise and even less defensively. Just constantly losing the ball. Pretty obvious Commons and Stokes cannot handle big opposition.

 

I got some stick in the Ambrose thing for giving him stick, but to try and pick faults out with Sammy last night is taking the biscuit really. He was brilliant for us, everytime he got the ball there was two Barcelona players up his *, he was passionate and gave his all, I can't ask for more.

I remember 5 minutes after we went down to 10 men they were spraying the ball about our box and our defenders were getting nowhere near the ball, they pass it out to the right wing and Sammy slide tackles ball out for corner turns to his players and give them the big MON GET YIR FINGER OOT! I love the man.
