I thought it was his poorest performance for a while to be honest, distribution was poor and disappeared up blind alleys from promising positions more than once.

I don't think it was so much a poor performance than a rusty performance, he still had some very good moments and he won a fuckton of headers.

Aye rusty is how I'd describe it as well. There was a couple of moments the old, annoyingly shitebag-ish Sammy reared his head but for the most part he was trying his best and obviously scored an absolutely brilliant header. Anyone watching that that didn't know his usual game would swear he was a traditional #9

 

Yeah possibly, plus the pitch wouldn't have made it so easy to make those runs he usually does down the left.
