I have great memories of Di Canio, .......the "Golden Boots" game against Aberdeen was amazing.
I remember him during a post-match interview on Sky when he was getting presented with the MOTM bottle of Champgne, he was getting the usual questions asked when he heard the P.A. playing the song about him to the tune of D.I.S.C.O (D.I Ca-Ni-O) and he said to the interviewer " hang on this is my song", and started singing along !

He was another Celtic legend in the Number 7 shirt. I still feel disappointed we only had him for one season, he was easily one of the most naturally gifted players I've seen in the Hoops !

Gutted about his politics though, that was a total sickener tbh.

Most talented player i've ever seen in the Hoops..Ws there the night of his penalty against Goram just strolled up sent him the wrong way..beautiful
The season we had the 3 amigos was i think the best i've ever had entertainment wise.No trophies i know(don't know how tho) but watching him was a joy.
Mad as a bag of frogs tho,and he did * us over, but on the plus side we did get Reggie for him.

And Regi did live up to his name, or the rhyming slang anyway.

regi blinker for di canio..... its a bit like walking into harrods and asking to trade a 37p bottle of aldis cola for a tub of russian caviar.

lost all respect for regi when he pulled out of a fifty fifty with the goalkeeper of the team we signed viduka from.

Loved DiCanio when he was with Celtic. Talk about a player who gives 100% that was certainly DiCanio. Usually though players like that are your work horse type players not flair players. I think that was why I liked DiCanio so much because he was such a soccer genius but at the same time was such a passionate and committed player.

    Di Canio to play

PAOLO Di Canio has become the latest former Celt to sign up for the Tommy Burns Tribute Match this Sunday, May 31.

The Italian star, who had a colourful spell at Celtic under Tommy in season 1996/97, is a late addition to the TB Select side and will revive his spectacular relationship with ex-team-mates Pierre van Hooijdonk and Jorge Cadete.

Having starred for Lazio, Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan, Di Canio’s signing was something of a coup for Tommy. A gifted and entertaining performer, the winger became a fans’ favourite during his year-long spell.

In total, Di Canio scored 15 goals in 37 appearances for Celtic. He was also named Player of the Year by his fellow professionals in Scotland.

Highlights included his penalty against Rangers in 1997 Scottish Cup tie, while he also dazzled the football world with a sublime individual goal against Aberdeen while wearing golden boots, which would later be auctioned off for charity.

Di Canio, who had a close relationship with Tommy during his time at the club, last year revealed that he had been captivated by the Celtic strip as a young child.

He said: “When I was young I would play Subbuteo with my friend. There was a squad with horizontal green and white lines. I was captivated by the colours of the shirt. I decided if one day I became a footballer I would like to play in Scotland.

“After 10 years playing in Italy an offer came from Glasgow and I decided straight away to go to Celtic because my dreams would come true. The first time I wore the Celtic shirt was emotional for me. I was like a child who has just received a big present.”

Di Canio left Celtic months after Tommy’s departure as manager. He went on to play for Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham, Charlton and Lazio. Now retired, Paolo will return to Paradise 12 years after leaving to honour his former boss.

The Tommy Burns Tribute match kicks off at 2pm on Sunday, May 31, at Celtic Park and tickets are now on sale, priced £15 for adults and £5 for concessions. To buy tickets click HERE

Di Canio will join up with ex-Celts including Pat Bonner, Neil Lennon, Roy Keane, Peter Grant, Alan Stubbs, van Hooijdonk and Cadete in the TB Select.

He's not welcome back at Celtic Park in my opinion. Celtic was founded on principles of tolerance and inclusiveness. But if there is one group of people who are not welcome at Celtic it's fascists and racists.

Di Canio is an admitted fascist and he openly spoke of his admiration for Mussolini in his autobiography. He also made a * salute during a Lazio game a few years back.

I won't boo him. The match is a tribute to Tommy and it would be disrespectful to his memory to shift the attention to Di Canio's political views.

But I am very angry that he's been invited to play in this match.
