    Kelly is a very average fullback, he lacks pace which in the modern game limits him. Flanagan has also never impressed me, neither of them are anywhere near Matthews in current ability or potential. You also massively overrate Glen Johnson, he is decent but nothing more. Its very debatable if he is better than Matthews.

    lol in time i think matthews has the potential to overtake glen johnson, yea i think hes a good player but theres a load whos better

    Kelly is average? The guy made his debut in the CL against Lyon at the age of 18 and was MOTM. He played against Cole and Malouda in one of his first Premiership games and barely gave either of them a sniff. He's had all his best games against the big clubs. Guarantee you he'll become a star. It's obvious.

    Matthews is one of the best young full-backs in the game. Would cost atleast £8million for us to part with him I think and if we did I would rather sell him to a team like Everton or Newcastle than one of the top teams right away with a clause we get 20% of any sell on so that if he ended up going to City, Chelsea etc from them for £18million we wouldnt be ripped off and get an extra £3/4million.

    Lennon said himself he isn't selling any main players this window and Mathews will be fighting it out with Lustig for the starting RB spot making him a main player. I could see cha being sold before mathews but Liverpool have 3 very good right backs atm so I don't think king kenny will be looking to strengthen that position

    Hmm whats wrong about that? Full back is a specialized position that very few players can master fully. matthews has it offensively and defensively. Great recovery pace and he has a good engine with a good cross. The guy is like 19/20 i think he has the potential to be world class, therefore he is a world class talent.

    i hate the use of 'world class' as i think it is used too often nowadays.

    however, if Matthews keeps his head down and works hard at this game, doesn't rush to another club too soon and continues this form, it's pretty hard to argue that he cannot become a top player with the chance of becoming on of the best in the world.

    he has the right attitude and i think he knows he can grow extremely faster if he stays here for the next couple of seasons. he is only 19 and has years to make the leap to a bigger team if he so wishes to in the distant future.
