Doing a 20k run next Sunday. Quite nervous about it as it will only be my second time (first time was about 9 years ago and was a real disaster). I did 20k in training in 1 hour and 40 minutes about a week ago (personal record) and I hope to repeat that next Sunday, but if I have an off day I may struggle to finish in less than 2 hours. I find that running really depends on how you feel on the day.

Any tips would be welcome. :50:

Next couple of days I will focus on resting (run 8k fast tonight and jog 5k slowly on Friday and get a lot of rest on Saturday). I will miss having a beer on Friday and Saturday, but I will compensate that on Sunday after the race.

Long distance runs are as much mental as they are physical. If you feel mentally tired then you will feel like you are carrying extra weight.

Keep a good pace from the beginning and get into a rythym. 1H 40 for 20k is very good, 1k short of a half marathon which I did in 1h 45, so pretty much same kind of pace.

Been back doing some running last few weeks, 5k 3 times a week in the morning before work and another 3 mornings doing constant doggies and other drills in various times and distances. Feel fresh as * for the day ahead once i've done them. Rest up on a Sunday. Stopped eating so much junk aswell, back eating better, will take me about 3 weeks to be as fit as i want to be, then just need to keep going instead of chucking it like last year

Indeed, mental fitness is equally as important. I run much worse when I am stressed.

My advice would be to try and get a good night sleep, get there early make sure you go to the toilet before you start. Get some of them sugar gels for the way round, I would get four and have them at 5km intervals.

Then dont go off to fast just run your own race and you will be grand, if you have anything in the tank at the 18km mark, up the pace. Good luck:50:

That is very impressive , takes some dedication . :50:

I was 73-74 last summer , running most days , eating well . The Autumn came and the days were getting shorter and i got into some bad habits food wise and stopped running ( too cold ). Weighed myself two weeks back , 88kg, * shocked me .

Weighed in this morning at 82.5 so on the right track again , hoping to get to the mid 70s again within the next few months.

    Well done, Viking.

Need to get more active myself. You also look stereotypically Scandinavian, I might add.:56:

Anyone tried the 5:2 fasting diet before?

Did my first fast day yesterday (eating less than 600 kcal). It was not easy, but pulled it through. Not sure if I can keep doing this as all I could think about was food, but will try it for a few weeks. Do feel better today (not particularly hungry) and slept extremely well last night.

I have, works very well indeed.

Personally though, I just stick to a weekly routine of intermittent fasting throughout the entire week (when on it) - don't eat until 12pm, then stop eating anywhere between 8pm-10pm - , so the majority of my fastinf is done when I'm sleeping.

If the one I am doing now does not work out, I might consider doing that one also, but instead eating untill 2pm and then fast until the next morning. That way I also fast for 16 hours.
