Varane would be hopeless without his pace and athleticism I think, he's very dodgy on the ball, seems to panic and rush passes and that and defensively not that good.

When you think of Varane you think of him chasing players and diving into tackles mostly from behind or heading balls away, His reading of the game is poor, hasnt really progressed in years either.

If him and Smalling played together I think they'd get slaughtered as they both have similar strengths - heading and running back to defend from their poor positioning and similar weaknesses - distribution, marking or positioning.

Aguero, Diego Costa, Hazard, De Bruyne, Silva, Ozil, Sanchez etc I think would be rubbing their hands at coming up against them.

 

Varaane poor on the ball, i've now heard it all.

 

He is, doesnt have any range of passing and keeps it to only 10 yard simple passing which is still quite dodgy at times.

Not a player youd want carrying the ball up to the half way line or passing crossfield balls or just slipping balls into the path of players.

 

Think it's a statement by Watford that they turned that money down for Ighalo. They don't think he's worth more, they just know it's ridiculous.

There are a lot of overrated * in the EPL but Mata isn't one of them for me. Martial and Mata carried United at times this season.

 

The mind boggles. Honestly don't understand what Gibson brings to a side.

 

Excellent signing for Everton to be fair. Mata going to Everton maybe a sign his confidence is shot. Like you say, he's good enough to be a back up at Barca like the likes of Turan.

 

Ah right I didn't know he was off to Everton. Seems strange but he has played for Koeman before and it might be the start of a new era at the Toffees if they show similar ambition with other signings. Mata might fancy being part of that.

Be interesting to see how much he goes for.

I can't help get the feeling he's an under rated player ever since Mourinho sold him. Even Van Gaal had him benched quite a few games and he would come on and make a difference straight away, was crazy.

He would love to play for that Barca team I'm sure and I think you're right, he's better suited to them than Turan who appears to have made a bad move. Maybe needs a bit more time but doesn't look right so far.

 

I don't think Barcelona fans would like a former Madrid man in their ranks.

 

Had to double check that, sounded odd at first, but yeah koemon first year at Valencia was also Mata - assume he brought him there. Could be a good relationship in there and imagine he sees what he saw back then.

Mata honestly could play for any team, of course he would be an arda turan/Pedro at Barcelona (squad player) but he would still be a great player for that. Would walk in to any side the level below - the only doubt about atheltico Madrid would be their formation and fitting him in.

On the face of it, Everton is a massive step down. But interesting to see if along with koemon they may be about to really push forward.
