£30m will be good value if Shaw comes in and is first choice left back for 10-15 years. Southampton are under no pressure to sell and United need a left back so obviously the price will be high

No other tv company has the financial clout of Sky and BT in the UK though.

The BBC can't offer the same terms, ITV can't, only foreign broadcasters like ESPN could.
Lets see how Sky's loss of CL affects them in 2015/2016 and whether or not it has a knock-on effect for their premier league broadcasting.

Its not the only league where it is happening but the rate the English league is increasing transfer fees and wages is far greater than any other league because top to bottom the English teams get so much tv money. Its gotten to the point where small English clubs are pretty much on a level financial footing with all the top teams in the top European leagues apart from the Real Madrid's and Bayern Munich's of the world. Even if English broadcasters couldn't afford to pay the amount they currently pay it wouldn't matter imo because the league is growing in popularity around the world and those tv deals will continue to get more lucrative.

    A centre-back remains the priority for Barcelona this summer;

If I was Barcelona I'd almost bring in two centre backs, one purely a CB the other a slightly more versatile option possible Vertonghen or Luiz.

Barca missed out badly by not getting Thiago Silva when they should of, despite his age if he has a screamer of a world cup his price will only get higher.

They're waiting to see if he can cut the mustard at a higher level, such as Sunderland or Norwich :icon_mrgreen:

I agree with this, I think people are just moaning because he's a full back, if he was a forward and the super talent that he is, people would moan less about it. Rooney moved for the same amount at the same age when he first joined Man United.

Luke Shaw is arguable the most talented young full back on the planet. £30 million is a lot but reasonable enough as he has his whole career ahead of him.

Aye probably:smiley-laughing002: But seriously a believe he could do a good job the now. He has great technique for CB, fast strong brave.

A still reckon he'll be at the World Cup with Holland and he'll turn some heads.

Luke Shaw is a cracking prospect but he isn't £30m just yet. He still looses concentration too often, something which will improve with age.

    Maybe £15m-£18m just now.

Really don't know what football has become if an 18 year old player (19 in the summer) who's had just two full proper seasons as a professional footballer is somehow worth £30m.

Seriously, that would even gazump the crazy English market.

He's played 64 professional first team games for his club ffs, beyond pathetic.

That kind of ridiculous figure could only exist in England.

Marquinhos went for £30m to be fair - to PSG. He was only 19.

Brazil is the best producer of football talent in the world. England isn't even in the top ten countries...

Aye, I think Marquinhos is worth it don't get me wrong, although it was still a massive gamble.

The prices being quotes are by the British press - bigging up their own. He won't move anywhere, when he does it won't be for any more than £20m - if that.

That's actually got me thinking. Is there even a top English player playing for any big decent sized clubs abroad? Can't think of anyone.

Not really. It's a a figure that exists in the crazy world of football royalty. Most English teams can't afford these figures...

Geoffrey Kondogbia - $26.8 million to Monaco
Marquinhos - $30 million to PSG
Bernard - €25 million to Shakhtar Donetsk
Lucas Moura - $44 million to PSG
Isco - $35 million to Real Madrid
Mario Götze - $37 million to Bayern
James Rodríguez - $45 million to Monaco
Javier Pastore - $40 million to PSG
and the daddy of them all Neymar - £100 million+ to Barcelona

    Crazy!

As you know your South American football, who are the next big things from down that way? And can we afford them? :icon_mrgreen:
