Luke Shaw leaving this month? The Telegraph say Southampton's young left-back wants to follow Chairman out of club: Players not happy could be a good few out the door most only signed new deals for Nicola Cortese.

I hope you succeed, to get that sum would surely allow you to compete at a higher level (than you already do) i.e. maybe the last 8/last 4 of the Champions League?

We receive about €5m for our T.V. rights. :54:

Yeah ive heard before that the clubs there have quite high debts, is that because the new stadiums?

Thats great to go from €8M to €25M. Celtic would be delighted to just get €8M though lol

In Scotland Celtic only get £2.5M(about €2.8M) from TV rights a year yet 22 of our 38 League matches are live on TV in the UK. All 19 of our away matches are shown on TV and 3 of our home games yet we barely get any money for it

In England a team like Hull City who are only live on TV in the UK about 5 times a year get like €65M.

This is what English teams got 2 seasons ago, the money has went up this season, now the least a team gets is £60million, I think the winner this year will get £100million

It's unbelievable how poorly some Premier League sides spend their money.

    Intellectually Absurd & ILoveTheCeltic,

I knew Celtic received a low sum as well, but that's insanely low honestly.

Portuguese population is estimated to be around 10M. Usually, that's said to be around 5 million Benfica fans, 2 million Sporting fans, 2 million Porto fans and the rest don't care/support smaller teams. Scotland population is a lower number, right, but you got fans all over UK, as far as I know. Even Porto, a regional club, with fanbase only in the north of Portugal, gets 20M€/year for their TV rights. That was a big reason for our rejection: how can we only get more 2M€ than them, if we atleast double their number of fans?

I'm not aware of Scottish reality, would it be impossible to innovate like we did? I'm sure that many clubs are taking a close look at BenficaTV though. See if it pays off. Celtic seems a clear case of a club that could benefit from something similar. Is not only the subscriptions (only avaliable in portuguese territory at this moment); we get advertising money, pay per view (Canada, USA, France, etc) we sell our home games to another international broadcasters... can't see Celtic getting less than 5M€ by doing something similar. We risked a bit by refusing 22M€, but you refusing 5M€ seems a way smaller risk. Some studies in Portugal revealed that portuguese clubs only get roughly 50% of the TV money they generate. I imagine Celtic gets even less than 50%.

Aye, its mostly down to how they have * up their own financial climate. Where players like Jelavic are costing £6.5million and probably £45k a week even though hes only scored 1 League goal in about 30 games :56:

That'd be like in the SPL Billy McKay being a £2million £15k a week player, when in reality hes about a £400k £3k a week player.

Jelavic should be an about £3.5million £20k a week player... he would be in Italy or Spain or Germany but England has lost the plot to the level where * like Milner, Young and Downing are costing the same as players like Isco and Gotze.

Aston Villa were wanting £20million for Benteke when Negredo only cost £16million from Spain.

This is the SPL TV Money

    1 £2,405,000
    2 £1,718,000
    3 £1,460,000
    4 £1,289,000
    5 £1,203,000
    6 £1,117,000
    7 £1,057,000
    8 £1,005,000
    9 £988,000
    10 £902,000
    11 £816,000
    12 £730,000

Basically nothing, Celtic if you look at our 23 live TV League games get like £110k per live match. Where as the likes of Hull get £12million per live match 100x what we get.

Fans have advocated for selling our own t.v rights but currently the SPL is sold as a whole. Without Celtic in the package the rest of the SPL would literally get crumbs rather than peanuts we currently get.

So until we remove ourselves from the SFA negotiating our t.v deal as a whole and go it ourselves we will continue to get 2/3M in t.v. money each year.

I mean we could quite realistically sell Celtic TV for 10 quid a month or more and get hundreds of thousands of subscribers from all over the world, even getting in just 10M in t.v money rather than 20M would allow us to increase our maximum wage and spend that little bit more on transfers.

We are not allowed to negotiate our own TV deal, the SPFL which is the League negotiates it. I think the SPFL currently get £13M a year from TV and maybe about £3M from Sponsorships so the League spreads out about £16M between 4 Leagues(42 teams) most of it, about £14M goes to the Top League and the rest £2M is spread amongst the lower Leagues.

It's terrible but theres nothing we can do as we kind of need to agree to it as the other teams need money and theyd get nothing without us.

Portuguese, Dutch, Swiss, Belgian etc teams all get far more money than us even though they are also smallish countries. Who should really only get 2/3 times what we get, yet are getting 10/15 times more.

Rumours that Chelsea have bid or are going to bid £21 million for Shaw. Outstanding talent with huge, huge potential. Southampton have a cracking youth set-up.

Yep I have always wondered about a pay per view. We have fans across the globe. I mean, we might not have as many fans as Man United but surely we have enough to make more than £2.5m.

Its the reality of living in the United Kingdom. SkySports only care about the EPL and the SPL feeds on the scraps. Our Television rights have practically been the same for the last 20 years, sadly.

Even 100,000 people paying £5 a month would generate £6million a year, which is near triple what we currently get. Realistically we could probably get 200,000 paying £5 a month probably even more. Could even charge £7 for HD, most people would opt for that.

Will never happen though as if everyone was allowed to sell their own games barely anybody would buy Motherwell TV for example, they'd be lucky to get 5,000 people to buy theirs for a year which means they'd lose £400k-£1.4M a year compared to what they get now.

So Celtic are basically grabbed by the testicles by all the other Clubs. Celtic could easily get 4/5/6/7/8x as much money if we sold our own but all the other clubs would get 4/5/6/7/8x less money so they won't allow us.

Aye, yet Scottish fans are the most hardcore in Europe. Scotland has the highest % of match attending fans per population in Europe I think except some wee diddy country like the Falkland Islands where there is only about 50,000 people - probably about 1% of them are players there lol so we are clearly all obsessed about Football yet we get the pish ripped out us for TV money.

The Swedish, Bulgarian and Croatian etc Leagues probably get a lot more than us too.

You wonder why Salmond and the SPFL etc don't get tore into the BBC too.

The BBC pay £60million per year just for EPL Highlights, Scotland is 10% of the UK so if they get £60million, we should get £6million from them if it was fair. Who knows what they pay probably lucky if its £1million they give us.

I think the BBC also pay mad wages like £50k a week to the likes of Lineker, Hansen and that too to show the EPL highlights, bet up here the * are lucky to get £500 per episode.

I made a thread about how we were being under-paid, back in June. The SFA have been horrendously negotiating for years.

This is a snippet of a television rights table. Comparable nations to ourselves:

    Country TV rights/year EUROs
    SCOTLAND 18,750,000.00
    BELGIUM 45,700,000.00
    SWITZERLAND 36,500,000.00
    POLAND 5,760,000.00
    NORWAY 56,000,000.00
    GREECE 44,000,000.00
    AUSTRIA 17,000,000.00
    DENMARK 45,000,000.00
