I can't believe the Chelsea Matic deal, fair play to Matic though.

Great player exactly what Chelsea need , Jose wanted him in the summer and Roman refused as he said would make the club look stupid i wonder what has changed .

Matic had offers from more prem clubs and clubs in Europe only wanted to rejoin Chelsea .

And another quality player leaves the portuguese league... 5 man midfield, all sold since 2010:

    Javi (20M€) / Matic (25M€)
    Ramires (22M€) / Witsel (40M€) / Di Maria (36M€)

Matic is way better than Javi, Premier League won't be a problem for him.

"Jelavic previously admitted he was swayed into joining the club after a personal phone call from Tigers boss Steve Bruce."

"City declined to confirm the fee paid but it is thought a transfer of £6.5m for Jelavic will cost an additional £1m if Premier League survival is secured at the KC Stadium."

£7.5m, seriously. Hooper was £2m less than that!

At least yous get good money.

We have lost Boruc, Wilson, Wanyama, Ki, Maloney, McGeady and Hooper since 2010 and only recieved about £38million for them all and they were all among our best players.

Lets be honest...Those 5 Benfica players are a class above what we've had here.

    Exactly - really annoys me.

Boruc was rated the 3rd best keeper in the world back on 2008 by FourFourTwo and we receive £2m?

I reckon all of them, combined could (in a better league) could have fetched about £70m.

4 id say Garcia isnt that good but the point is they're getting good money, so they cant complain.

£118million for Ramires, Matic, Garcia, Di Maria and Witsel.... id be dancing about like a loony if we got that for those players. Thats about £24million each id say thats way over the odds for Garcia, not the best deal for Ramires either, Matic probably slightly over the odds, Witsel and Di Maria about right.

Id value them like Garcia £12million, Ramires £18million, Matic £20million, Witsel £25million, Di Maria £23million.

They got more than fair value, we got less, for Boruc, Wilson, Wanyama, Ki, Maloney, McGeady and Hooper id have wanted atleast £50million. Fair value would have been like

Boruc £5million, Wilson £4million, Wanyama £18million, Ki £7million, Maloney £3million, McGeady £12million and Hooper £7million. Hooper and Ki ideally id have wanted £8million and £11million each but their contracts were only 1 year to go so its more acceptable.

We need to stop getting under valued in the Transfer market although to be fair we do sign all our players on the cheap too so we dont really pay fair prices. Looking at Van Dijk for example if we'd paid £6million for him in the summer we'd all be delighted with the deal but we never even paid half that lol

Hooper - Last year of contract - cant complain
Boruc - last year of contract - cant complain(he hadnt been at the top of his game either)
Ki - year and a half left on contract - good deal
Maloney - constantly injured - cant complain
Wilson - maybe could have gotten more, but he wanted to leave.
McGeady and Wanyama - combined 20m+ maybe could have expected 25+ for those two, but still, not bad.

Don't think we can complain about the fee's we've recieved.

Aye, Wanyama has only played about 15 games for Southampton but if someone wanted to sign him now theyd be talking atleast £20million even though hes barely played.

Same with Hooper imagine like Everton or Southampton bidding £5million for Hooper lol Hooper would probably go for over £12million now even though again hes only played about 15 games.

Even Boruc now at 33 or whatever he is, Southampton would want more for him than we got when he was in his prime. The likes of a Crystal Palace would probably need to pay about £4million for Boruc now even though hes old, Spurs paid about £3million for Friedel when he was about 38 fucksake

Only 2 of those players we sold fetched a bigger fee than a woefully out of for Jelavic fetched for Everton.

When you put it that way, it's crazy what difference being in a "big" league makes, regardless of current form to.

I was going to say that.

    Van Dijk
    Hooper
    Wanyama
    Kayal
    Izzy
    Samaras
    Stokes
    Forster
    Lustig
    Matthews
    Ledley
    Ambrose
    Biton

Did the fee's for any of these players really match their value? :smiley-laughing002:

We are dicks! I love it :56:

Id value them now at or when they were sold

    Van Dijk £12million
    Hooper £10million
    Wanyama £16million
    Kayal £4million
    Izzy £6million
    Samaras £4million
    Stokes £2.5million
    Forster £10million
    Lustig £7million
    Matthews £7million
    Ledley £6million
    Ambrose £4million
    Biton £4million
    Commons £2million

Yet we only paid about £15/16million for them? could also add in Ki and Wilson who combined we paid around £2million for but we'd then value at £10millionish Great business :86: wonder how much Benfica originally paid for those 5 guys though?

Still though we should be wanting even more.

Guys like Milner, Downing, Young, Long, Jelavic, Fletcher etc go for stupid money just a couple of hundred mile down the road when really anyone who signs a * from us is getting a bargain.

We've never robbed a team like punted them a Hutton for £8million or that. For us that would be like getting £8million for Stokes or £10million for Kayal.

    Witsel - 8 million€
    Javi García - 7.5 million€
    Ramires - 7.5 million€
    Matić - free (plus 25 million€)
    di María - 8 million€

So very good business on their part.

I get what you saying. Don't know about the others, but Wanyama is definitely better than Javi imo. I believe Benfica or Porto could sell him for around 30M€, probably. However we really don't celebrate much because portuguese clubs need to sell in order to cover their debts and reinvest a little part in other quality players. Portuguese clubs revenue is quite small without the % from sales. We sell for large sums our best players but only to cover the financial hole. Not very glamorous. Ofc we see the squad improving each year, but that's a slow process and more based in a very good scouting than the money from those sales.

In a better league, without the constant need to sell, we could have a squad like this. Rather cheap, comparing with most top5 teams from Spain, England, Italy, etc.

    Jan Oblak (2M€)
Maxi Pereira (6M€), Luisão (undisclosed fee), David Luiz (1M€), Fábio Coentrao (1M€)
    Ramires (7,5M€), Witsel (8M€), Javi (7M€), Matic (2M€), Di Maria (9M€)
    Cardozo (11M€)

We have the same problem though, our domestic leagues suck. More or less, they both do. BenficaTV hopefully will change things a bit for us. For about 10 years we received an annual fee of 8M€ for our TV rights. Very low fee, the deal was signed in the worst period of our history. This year they offered us 22M€ to renew the contract; the offer was rejected and we started managing our own TV rights. We bought the Premier League rights in Portugal as well. Premier League + Benfica home league games (15 games) + Brasileirão + some other minor content (Benfica B, Benfica various sports, MLS), 10€/month. 250k subscribers so far. If instead of 8M€ we manage to get 25/30M€ for our TV rights... that means one less sale each year.

    Text wall, sorry.
