It's clear West Ham need a striker and Sam Allardyce is working on three late deals in an effort to get one done. In an email to supporters today though, he reiterated he 'doesn't know' whether that will happen. Effectively Ricardo Vaz Te needs to go for one to come in, according to the manager.
Jack Sullivan, son of owner David, has tweeted: 'We are battling to bring back one of our former stars, but there is probably only a 15% chance.' That would tally with Carlton Cole.
It's not all doom and gloom though. Elliot Lee, son of Rob, has this afternoon scored a hat-trick in West Ham's under-21 victory over Newcastle. They came from 3-0 down to win 5-4 on Tyneside, where Lee was born. He made his Premier League debut at the weekend by coming on as a substitute against Stoke.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is still keen to recruit the Republic of Ireland international, who has been granted extra leave by the national team as he looks to force through the move.
'Everton are prepared to pay up to £13million, but the payment would be staggered in installments, while Wigan want the cash up front.
'Latics Chairman Dave Whelan is still holding out for £15million but may compromise on a smaller fee if the money is paid quicker.
'Everton's need for McCarthy is lessened by the imminent signing of Fernando from Porto and if a deal is to go through, Wigan may have to compromise. Talks are expected to recommence after United and Everton reach an agreement for Marouane Fellaini.'
