  1. I hope Punk does lose, i dont like him much and dont see him good enough to be a world champion unless its ECW.

I'm not his biggest fan either as a main eventer to be honest, there's guys like Matt Hardy and even Shelton Benjamin that have paid their due's for years before Punk came along.

  7. I know he's been champion before but i just dont see him up there with the likes of HHH, Orton, Undertaker or even like Hammer says Matt Hardy, Jeff and even Shelton Benjamin, not that i think much of him either.

It shows you how far the WWE has come when you look at some "main eventers" now compared to a few years ago. Now you have CM Punk, Edge, Christian, an ageing HHH and Undertaker. Then you had Austin, The Rock, HHH in his prime.
No offence to the likes of Edge and Christian but if the big boys were still about and didnt go off to make movies then they would still be fighting for the tag team championships.

I may be being slightly harsh because there are alot of good wrestlers about but they would be mid card wrestlers if the likes of Austin and The Rock were still about.

I know Punk's not up there with established main eventers like Taker and such but he's deservedly higher on the card than Benjamin and Matt.

Punk and Christian aren't main event, they're in the upper midcard same as Big Show, MVP, Kane, Jeff Hardy and who are all creditable performers who could hold a strap for a while. Batista, Cena, Orton, Trips, Edge, Jericho are the Main Eventers at the moment.

Deservedly higher how though? His in ring work isn't as good and he doesn't have any more charisma or mic skills. His title reign flew clean under the radar.

I realise wrestling fans get a bit shirty but I'm just wondering.

  12. Deservedly higher because he has done well in promotion. He has the crowd behind him, sells merchandise and draws, therefore the company pushes him more. It's the most basic law of booking.

  14. I havent seen them push him much. When he own the MITB match the first time he must have got a couple of months push then it kinda dropped, now we're waiting to see what kind of push he gets this time. I just hope it doesnt last.
Id rather see Orton and Edge hold onto the titles for a while until someone else other than JOhn Cena or HHH challenges.
I'd quite like to see Ted DiBiase turn on Orton, would be interesting. And then they get Cody Rhodes to *.

  16. Becoming a Triple Crown after 3 years of being in the company is a pretty good indication they expect him to be there or thereabouts for a long yet, also winning the MiTB is pretty much one of the biggest pushes you can get as it suggests that you're on the verge of the main event and will be called up when needed.

The dirt sheets are reporting that Angle might be coming back, take what you want from their word though.

He doesn't have the crowd behind him more than Hardy before his turn.

His push is un-natural and everyone is fully aware of that.

  20. That argument doesn't make any sense, he consistently gets big pops when he comes out and the crowd are usually into his matches. So in your book what constitutes a 'natural' push in a business based around getting wrestlers over and selling merch? Punk outsells Matt, therefore he's pushed harder.

In conclusion YouTube - CM Punk and the invisible microphone

Doesn't make any sense? Give me one match you can remember off the top of your head that will be remembered for a good while.

I've heard Punks pops in person, it's tepid at best. The WWE are trying to forge a star from a good worker, semi-charismatic, good ring worker. If he does eventually become a main eventer good on him but he's miles away just now.

  24. His matches against Jericho were top notch, the Morrison program was excellent and so was his Regal feud. I've also heard Punk's pops in person twice in the last couple of years, first in Belfast and second in Dublin and they were both strong, the Dublin one was only the other week against Jericho and Punk got one of the biggest pops besides Cena and when they advertised Taker's Rest in Peace tour.

It's obvious I rate CM Punk higher than you but I've always followed Punk throughout his indy period and perhaps that's why I do rate him higher. I was never expecting Punk to be given free reign to use his indy moveset and persona since they would never work in the WWE but he has still adapted a style to suit the WWE (even if it is KENTA's moveset) and more importantly he's gotten the crowd on his side. Your notion that WWE is trying to 'forge a star' from Punk is pretty interesting seeing as he's already well over by a long way.

They are trying to forge a main event level star from him, do you not agree with that? At least someone like John Cena who 95% of 'proper' wrestling fans hate evokes enough response you know he's top level even if you detest him.

Most people have top notch matches with Jericho, I can't even remember him being in any decent feud with Morrison and the programme with Regal was given plenty of TV time as they were supposedly pushing the IC title which has stalled once more.

He's held just about every title on Raw and ECW Punk, he doesn't deserve that. Even he thought Shelton Benjamin was going to win MITB.

  30. Of course I agree simply because that's their ambition with every upper midcarder. If you by proper wrestling fans you mean smarks then that argument is void. Punk is basically the smark Cena, you either love him or you hate him but in the run of things it doesn't matter since it's whoever the kids are cheering that get over.

Punk/Morrison was the biggest feud in ECW throughout 08, culminating in this match. Yes, the Regal feud was given plenty of TV, I fail to understand why that detracts from the quality of the matches. What are you going on about 'even he thought Shelton Benjamin was going to win the MITB'?

  34. I could name a couple hundred (although sadly, none of them would be from W.W.E.) but I'll name just one in the interest of time :

    Punk -Vs- Samoa Joe (October 16th 2004 - R.O.H.)

It was the first American wrestling match to be rated 5 stars by Dave Meltzer since 1997 and is widely considered to be one of the greatest matches (if not the greatest match) to take place on American soil this decade.

Punk was a * in Ring of Honor. The reason he's never shone in W.W.E. is because they don't know how to use him. In my opinion, he's the best in-ring worker in the company by a country mile.
