My point Ciaran, and you fine well know it, is that anti-immigrant propaganda doesn't sit comfortably on a forum full of immigrant descendants. Don't act dumb.

I assume you have some information the rest of us aren't privy to, since you say it's a "fact"?:87:

The SNP have no control over benefits, it's reserved to London.

Was thinking to myself it maybe wasn't a fact so it was the wrong word to use but he is merely making a statement that if majority of the immigrants are claiming benefits left right and centre then why shouldn't we either?

The tax gap caused from tax evasion is about £70 billion - thats more than 27 times as much as is lost to benefit fraud. HMRC spent £633, 284 on advertising to prevent tax evasion in 2009, compared with the £5 million spent on advertising to stop benefit fraud.

Your anger is directed in the wrong place, benefit scroungers account for 1% of benefit payments and its thanks to a propoganda campaign that its made out practically everyone on benefit is a lazy, work shy *. Utter nonsense.

Its your multinationals and huge corporations that need to be sorted out and pronto.

Source is the National Audit Office

Shouldn't you be angry at the government then if you're so angry at having to pay so much tax? Shouldn't you be angry at the rich for taking so much and putting in so little? Shouldn't you be angry at a system that makes the poorest believe they have to have the latest capitalist goods? Shouldn't you be angry at the banks for raping the economy? Shouldn't you be angry at the rich's tax evasion? Shouldn't you be angry at the celebrity culture the poor are told every single day of their life that they should aspire to?

No, you're angry at who the right wing media tell you to be angry at. You have fallen for it, you are hitting out at the poorest just like the Daily Mail have told you to. Clear your eyes of ignorant anger for one second and realise you've been had and that you are a * in a game you don't even know you're * playing.

I'd like to see some documentation that says the majority of immigrants are on benefits please.

Like I said. If immigrants are "claiming benefits left right and centre" I assume you have some info the rest of us don't since you feel comfortable making such a sweeping claim. I mean surely you didn't just read it in The Sun. Surely not.

    :50:

Too many people take the Daily Mail and other populist right wing tabloid rags as gospel truth.

Good point. Along the same lines about the arguments above re. immigrants, its a propaganda campaign also to say all immigrants are here just to claim benefits. Its just ridiculous for people to say foreigners come here because we have a generous benefits system.

A lot come here because they are skilled in jobs we don't have the skills for, and also are willing to do much of the jobs many people simply don't like doing, along the same lines mentioned by kristof about his brother (about being bone idled)

That's not to say some immigrants aren't purely here for benefits, but the vast majority are here to make a better life for them by working hard.

Finally, my thoughts regarding the original point of this (apologies as its very controversial!), if you can't afford dog food, don't get a dog...

It would be my guess that in percentage terms, more 'British' people will be scrounging benefits they don't deserve than immigrants. A lot more.

Open your eyes mate, if you wanted a job you could easily get one. People expect things to get handed to them on a plate. Read the papers mate, watch the news, unemployment has hit a record high, with the majority of folk bring under 25. This is because everyone seems to think this country owes them something. Hats off to the people seeking work and are unlucky, benefits were put in place for people like you

I actually don't think the job centre are a lot of help. I finished uni in may and was looking for work until I got my job in september. I went to the job centre every other week, generally I was seen by someone with a terrible attitude who spent the five minutes looking down their nose at me. Over the months I was offered jobs such as selling double glazing round the doors, things like that.

I'm sure there are good people who work there but with the attitudes I encountered it's no wonder people can't find work. I was in the fortunate position of being fairly intelligent, with good enough qualifications and able to access things like the Internet, being able to make up a pretty decent looking cv. I really pity the good people who maybe aren't as blessed as me who go in looking for guidance and support, because they don't get it.

    With respect mate, that's pish.
It's not as simple as 'if you want a job, you can get one'. Firstly, thanks to the financial crisis, the amount of skilled jobs on offer are very small. So you now have a massive amount of skilled graduates competing for a tiny number of positions.

Where does this leave those who aren't graduates?
With low-paid, insecure, (mostly) service sector jobs. A job which leaves paying the mortgage extremely difficult, never mind rocketing energy bills, food, home maintenence or any kind of leisure activities.

The reason so many young people are unemployed is because there are too few jobs to go around for everyone. The majority out there are desperate for a job out there and are flying their CV into everywhere yet are unable to get a job.

You are the one who needs to open your eyes pal. The sort of people you are talking about are in the real minority. Your getting your information from wealthy (at best upper middle class) journalists and media corporations who have real life right wing agendas. Do you never stop to think that maybe you only believe this nonsense because they want you to?

A lot of mis-informed people on here regarding immigrants.

Do you know the facts surrounding it ? And I agree with the OP to an extent , any of you who haven't tried it, you live off £55 a week to pay for food, electricity and gas. Believe me it's a struggle. And the lack of jobs is a joke aswel. And who caused it ? the rich... who gets the blame ? the poor and immigrants

Lol so your saying that if you have worked hard for a living and have made a tidy sum from it, you should pay more tax so they can carry the weight of the unemployed? Im only referring to people who cheat the system as I said in my other posts it's the ones who are honest that suffer from the greed of Benefit cheats
