Neil Lennon said today that the club have agreed terms with Scott Brown over his new contract but that it is the negotiations with his agent over what his fee will be that is holding up the deal getting signed.

I don't know why players need an "Agent".. Can they not make decisons themselves or any other matter. Paul Scholes had the right idea and never had one.

On that note I hope the day comes where they are banned from the game all together!

As for broony, his contract will be signed soon enough.

Agents should be banned from the game as they are not needed. They are only greedy * it seems.

do you know how badly players would get taken advantage of by teams wihtout agents?

A blanket ban is not the answer, only regulation would strike the proper balance

Well it makes a change from players constantly taking advantage of their clubs.

No player is bigger than the club yet players seem to be able to hold clubs to ransom, the Rooney saga for example.

These guys are robbing our club out of millions for doing next to nothing.

yea the broker a deal part is pretty big though. I imagine they also manage non-sporting financial affairs.

Ever since the Stan Petrov situation I have had a big dislike of football agents.

Petrov plays happily for Celtic for 6 years. He changes his agent and within months he wants out of Celtic Park. Too much of a coincidence for me.

Football agents, as a group, are parasites.

You simply cannot have a rule that bans a man from hiring someone to handle his business negotiations for him. It's untenable.

Same happened with Islam Feruz, was with John Colquhoun and everything was fine then let someone else take over and suddenly his attitude towards the club changed dramatically.

a club can be done for tapping a player

but what happens when an agent does it

they make a career out of touting their players to all and sundry and * all happens to them

i dont deny some players need representatives for them in contract talks but this unregulated version has led to players getting way more than they deserve

the thing is i dont see anything changing untill big football clubs start getting into bother because of their financies

Unheard of for such a thing to hold up a deal for me, surely these things are agreed beforehand?

Why do we need to pay an agent to act on behalf of his own client in contract negotiations anyway?

I'd like to hear more details.

Because a player can only talk to his own club and can not "sound out" potential suitors.

Players employ agents to find them the best deal. They are the only ones who can speak to other clubs outside of the transfer window. Believe me that while Brown has been mulling this over, his agent has been looking around and talking to others about what he could get elsewhere, or if he's wanted at all and what his current market value would be.

In the case of a player extending contracts at a current club, I can understand the agent is seems to be doing nothing and picking up a check. But he would have gone out, did the work to discover Browns value and potential earnings and be able to show Celtic what he's worth elsewhere to get the best deal for Brown.

We all know it's about the money for players now. They use the "short term career" excuse all the time for their greed, but it's not the case. Like anyone else in the World, be it by inheritance, lottery, fame or pure chance, we all want the money. It's indicative of the times we live in. We have followed the American Dream, where the pursuit of happiness is interchangeable with the pursuit of money.

So, players don't need an agent. But they * well want one.

Paul Scholes had no intention of ever playing for any other club.

We've had the stone age, the iron age, the dark age and many other ages. What will our time be called by future generations? The Age of Greed perhaps?

too ,any agents are greedy * and only care about the dosh other to who they rep most of the time, its because of agents a lot of deals fall therough due to their excessive greed.
