GAA is in no doubt an influence up here on Celtic support too. I notice that in the local GAA club Hoops tops are common place, and in the unusual circumstance that a hoops match clashes with a high profile EPL match the Celtic match takes priority. This is a new thing, whereas before soccer was outlawed from the GAA bar completely. Now they have an Everton, ManU and Leeds supporters club?... all including the 'old' board of committee members?

In relation to your other comments, i like the comment about the divide up here... maybe its a show of strength day and daily, rather than dressing up for the occasion down south. appreciate your comments/advice!

Celtic get no coverage here so its only natural that young lads jump on the premiership bandwagon, dont really give a * just hate the ignorance of the phrase they seem to have taken a liking to, "aw celtic are *".

Their loss what are you gonna do? they will never know what real passion for your team feels like.

Good to hear the GAA position on game clashes.

Celtic could play more games in Ireland? Could we play any competitive games there? European games? Friendlies don't really work.

:50: Dont worry, The Celts will rise again:celt_2:

As Donal said its their loss to be sucked into the empty soulless product that is the EPL.

They don't bring decent teams when they come anymore, its usually a second string, plus I don't want to harp on bout recession but it does have a major bearing on the amount of Irish goin over.

Can I ask the Irishmen this...

At no point in my life can I remember not being a Celtic fan, and it will be the same for my son. We both just are.

Can you remember making the decision to support Celtic or is your story like mine?

the days of Irwin and Keane at ManUre were an obviously attraction to the support in Ireland. Even now i can whine my nephews from the grip of their English club loving fathers but i will continue to try.

Hopefully the rise of Stokes, McCourt, McGeady and the involvment of the Keanes and the other Irish players will be enough to change the poisoned minds to realise the future is green and white!!:50:

My da, a Republican, never really supported a soccer team. My family are hardcore GAA fans. I think in primary school I followed a friends advice on buying a Celtic school bag and hey presto, I was hooked.

My son recognises anything that is coloured green and white as 'Celtic'. Rather pleasing in my eyes but his mum does get a bit * some time (his mums conversion is my next mission in life!)

My great granny bought me a Chelsea strip when I was about 6 but I never had much of an interest in them, Only match I remember watching as a chelsea "fan" back then was when they beat united 5-0 in 99 or 2000 I think it was, Sutton scored for them that day.

    (I now hate Chelsea)

I remember I was 9 and I just seen celtic on the telly and something just seemed to click I was hooked and havent looked back since!

Been over to paradise precious few times and the hearts match at home next month is my first trip over since mogga was in charge, bringing over 2 of my mates one of which over the past 2 years has become a massive tim thanks to my influence and he was your typical no sense united supporter,

See can paradise convert the other one whos an Arsenal * ha

My first celtic memory is watching the 6-2 game but I knew all the players names by then and was wearing Celtic top watching it but can't remember how it started really?

Ive was born in and lived my whole life in Dublin and found a few years ago during the MON years that there seemed to be a lot more ppl claiming Celtic compared to now. I also found that it's a big thing to claim being a Celtic fan in school everyone in my school seemed to do it? Now tho fans seem to be a lot more scarce, I work with 40+ lads and there's 3 of us who are Celtic fans! Most of the others just dismiss any Celtic talk with the usual, there * or what a * league blah blah blah

I live in west belfast, and out of me and my 12 close mates , im the only one with any interest in Celtic , all the others are either Man U, Liverpool or GAA fans and they couldnt care less about Celtic . Sad really .

    p.s.

the Celtic Bar on the falls rd has recently closed .

the lack of fellow tims must have had an adverse effect on this old boozer too.

Wales has always been similar to Ireland. * clubs mean that historically Leeds then Liverpool then Man Utd were the biggest supported clubs. Liverpool and Man Utd get huge support in Wales (similar to ireland from what i gather) albeit as for "real diehard match-attending fans i'd state the numbers are pathetic. typical glories. primary school fans with the kit and stickers who dont really give a * past their teens but still refer to themselves as Red's.

interestingly, swansea and cardiff are now doing ok and a recent poll on s4c suggested that out of a 1000 people polled 20% said they were swansea fans, 19% man utd fans and 18% cardiff fans. i dont take this as gospel but if swansea can maintain a good few years in PL and if cardiff can come up perhaps the next generation can stop supporting foreign clubs.

ridiculous situation, "i hate the english but i support man u". oh * off.

when i was a child i was a newcastle fan and when i got to about 14 i realised i simply had no connection with them. if they lost, if they won it didnt matter. i had been there once in my life. began watching Swansea in League 2, getting pumped week in, week out and it was amazing. lived and died the results.

being an Irishman or Welshman and watching Liverpool/Man Utd on tv having never been to watch them or even know their chants....whats the * point.

as Ireland dont have a club competing at PL level or even Championship level, if your gonna support a foreign club there is no reasonable reason why it should be any team other than Celtic.

I've been working in Livingston along side a load of Irishmen over the last 2 weeks from Derry,Donegal,Dublin,Mayo,Monaghan and Tyrone....we got to talkin' about football and i was rather taken aback when i learned that none of them supported Celtic..even the guy from Derry.
The common answer was they never really bothered with Celtic or Rangers! To a man, they all followed Man U or Liverpool.
When i asked if any of them had a wee soft spot for Celtic as their 2nd team they said No.:54:
I think the flip side of the coin is that any Irish person(from North & South of the border) i've met that stay in Glasgow/Scotland tend to follow Celtic.
Growing up with Irish neighbours who were die hard Celtic people may have blinkered my way of thinking that all Irish people apart from the Orange/British minded were Celtic fans.

I would have thought Celtic's market in Ireland would be strong but maybe the clubs Irish/Scots links further afield like the USA who have a Shortbread tin/Guinness mentality(a longing for all things from the old country) include a stronger passion for Celtic FC.
If i look at myself, growing up in Glasgow(and dare i say it,a Catholic) with stong Ancestral links to Ireland...my outlook of the old homeland passed down through the generations may not be all that different to the folks in the USA etc...

There all a shower of fanneys epl supporters overhere
My brother included. I have 6 brothers and we all support Celtic but
Not the fanney one he supports man utd
But yet and all he wouldn't watch them just one of those glory supporters and
Basically I think all the epl supporters over her especially man utd supporters are
I love taking the * out of them though cause when England play well they should be supporting Rooney Ferdinand Gerard and co
A earlier post sums up why Celtic are not as big as they used to be MEDIA
The only time you would see Celtic on tv here was when robbie
    Played for us
You'd see just his goal on the news it did nt matter if we win 4 0
    They only showed his
