Just watched the Ireland game there- witnessed an identicle celtic huddle by the celtic players, celtic jereys wore in the stands just as common or not more as than ireland jersey. Singing of the fields of athenry, Aidean Mcgeady, Robbie keane ex celtic players are fan favourites no doubt partly because of the history with celtic. Even the Irish pundits P. Bonner and Big Mick McCarthy ex- celtic men.

Our manager is Irish star players like stokes , Mcourt are irish - for anyone to try and brake Celtics roots even though some are controversial with Ireland the club would die and no longer be able to be the club it is.

IF celtic's board try and extinguish our irish roots in a decade we will be another Hibs .

If there was no Scotland there would be no Celtic.

Lisbon Lions all Scottish. Greatest ever player Scottish. Greatest ever manager Scottish. GLASGOW Celtic.

They are both Scottish and Irish.

This has been the plan since money mattered more than history. Many of our fans are embarrassed that we were a politically aware, pro-active support who cared about more than a game of football.

We supported the war effort for decades when it was very dangerous to do so, yet now Ireland has peace they still want to cover up our cultural identity.

The day we give in is the day Celtic Fc dies. We must fight to save the heart of the Club.

To paraphrase a brave man - "Everyone, Republican or otherwise has a part to play"

Their grand parents were Irish many not all

Just so I have got this right...

We stop singing about about the IRA, and Celtic FC will die? Sounds like I better join in next time then and save the club.

You have just cherry-picked some of the Irish parts of the clubs history and whitewashed the Scottish identity. I find that every bit as offensive as those who deny the clubs Irish roots.

You're not allowed to be offended if you're Scottish mate. Only the Irish on here can be offended.

This is all getting a bit ridiculous. We are Celtic. A club based in Scotland, with Irish roots, but open to all, regardless of nationality.

I don't think it is important whether or not we are MORE Irish than Scottish or the opposite. We are a football club of mixed origins, simple as that.

    As you should mate.

Our club has a mixed identity and the sooner people just accept that, the better.

Is that the case, where have you heard that?

It's all on here mate. Say what you want about Scotland as long as it's bad. Say the slightest negative thing about Ireland or an Irishman and the dummy is well and truly spat.

Wish folk would stop calling us Glasgow Celtic, really irritating.

Nothing against glasgow but christ were called The Celtic Football Club, name on the badge , name on the stadium.

"Celtic Football Club is a Scottish football club with proud Irish links."
From the social mission statement, which makes repeated reference to our Irish heritage. No-one'e trying to take away our 'Irishness', Lawwell just wants to stop the IRA songs. No-ones trying to stop us singing Let the People Sing, the Solider Song, Fields of Athenry etc, just songs which reference organisations associated with terrorism. The tricolour will always fly above Paradise.
