I don't think the songs should be criminalized because these songs are no different from other rebel songs you would hear in this country for instance. Songs like Killiecrankie, Flower of Scotland or many other songs especially from the Jacobite era.

My point is solely on the fact that singing these songs will damage the club.

We live in a country were the IRA are viewed by the majority as a terrorist group. They aren't interested in the history or the politics of it nor are they interested in being educated about it by us.

Which means everytime we sing these songs we are viewed with the same disdain that these people view the IRA with.

And that generally is with disgust and that view also paints a view of the club further a field than just Scotland.

But just because something isn't against the law doesn't mean you should just go do it. It isn't against the law to pump your cousin but you don't do it because people will view you generally with contempt.

    Similar logic applies.

Irish Republicanism is an ideology that has been about long before the IRA.

Irish Republicanism and being pro-IRA aren't the same thing

2 wrongs dont make a right though, im not defending the British Forces but the Irish seem to think they were the only country in the world to ever have been occupied, Scotland's been occupied for century's and had it just as tough as the Irish at times (not recently im not that ignorant)

I understand the plight and sympathise but for many the fear the IRA caused will never be forgotten much like the brutality of the British army caused the Irish, Its a situation that will always be there i just hate how our club is being used as a spokes piece for political reasons and not footballing reasons what it should be used for footballs a sport used for entertainment no matter the history.

I think you will find the vast majority of civilians killed in this conflict lived in Ireland. Does their fears not count for anything or are we of a lower species and therefore irrelevant.

And as I said every citizen has the right not to. I don't see where we are disagreeing here?

Apart from the last bit, I entirely disagree.

Will the singing of pro-IRA songs in Scotland at a Scottish Football match alleviate those fears like?

I get your point, i really do.

But it does have nothing to do with football

Celtic don't want IRA songs. Celtic will get into trouble for singing them. That is all that should matter to anyone. There are plenty more songs out there.

Celtic should sing about Ireland but leave out anything to do with the IRA

You have taken what I said out of context. This post was a reply to a previous post about people living in fear in England and not about any songs.

    Over & Over......
What would Celtic do if all the Nationalist/ Republican supports stopped supporting the club, all because of it adverse views against the struggle for Irish freedom while pushing the british poppy in our faces ?

I think the club needs to take a step back and look at itself & the history of why it grew so strong, if it keeps going in the directions it is, it will lose a lot of Irish supporters & in turn the revenue they create both directly through ticket sales and indirectly through merchandise sales.

The club is in a bad position as it is without alienating a large amount of it support. Stand up and be counted and be proud of what the club is and why it is in Glasgow.

All these complaints come from a HUN ex cop who has been at many games in Grey Skull and never made a complaint..............

If singing about them is classed as supporting them then it could be, I can't find it anywhere else.

I'm with you on this. I'm not spending £1000 plus a season on basically Glasgow hibs, * that!

Also were the * are the Celtic hierarchy, I've yet to hear a statement backing the fans and condemning this bill

If this stance continues the team will be playing in 60000 seated stadium with only 20000 fans.
