to be fair he had alot more than one good season, he was one of the best pitchers for his first few years with the Royals but he was playing on the worst team in baseball, his record would always be something like 10-14 but he would have a 2.90 ERA, then he had health issues but came back as a Cy young pitcher and he was great last year for the brewers, but this year has been his worst ever

Once again: Greinke is no bad pitcher. He's a solid one, but that's it. He is not elite, not even almost elite. I also think you can have an under 3 ERA on a bad team, something Felix Hernandez proves year in year out.

When I read Markybhoy's post it implied Greinke's arrival gave the Angels a huge boost and made them a world series favourite. Perhaps I got your message wrong Markymate.

There are about 20 pitchers I would have before Greinke to be honest.

But the truth lies in the field. the Angels always could get hot and go for it. Their roster is stacked, just imagine a red hot Pujols.

Anyone see the Cubs @ Nats game... couple of bench clearing flair ups.

In other news, O's go level with the Wankees... they will be hoping to put a couple of games between them after this series completes.

Felix Hernandez is quite possibly the best pitcher in baseball so it would be unfair to draw any comparisons between Greinke and him I think.

My thinking was that Greinke is an AL Cy Young winner and a guy who is more than capable of posting an ERA under 3. The Angels ballpark is also pitcher friendly so there would appear to be no reason why Greinke won't do well in LA.

When you add Greinke in to a starting rotation that already has Jered Weaver, CJ Wilson and Dan Haren then I thought that would give the Angels a 4 man rotation that could be devastating in the post season. I still think that.

The Angels have to make it to the post season first though and that's their problem.

That's debatable mate. King Felix is filthy good, probably in the top 3 at the moment. I'm under the impression an elite pitcher can even put up elite numbers with an average or even bad team and that's why I came up with his name.

Other examples this season are RA Dickey and Wade Miley.

Greinke ain't bad, but he only posted an ERA under 3 once in his career. He never came even close to 3, with 3.47 being his second best. granted he's suffered from a horrible injury, so I still would give him a few good or even very good seasons.

I agree with you, Greinke is more than capable of being a no4.

the interesting questions are: will the angels reach the post season and would they go with a 3-man-rotation? Would they use him as a starter or relief pitcher?

Yet another game dropped by the Sox... now languishing last in the AL E... The only positive is that it can help with the draft, but this is beyond a joke... Not just embarrassing now, it's downright 'hide under the duvet' bad. 1 win in the last 12 played... 4-16 since August 19 & have not managed to win more than 2 back to back wins since July.

Don't know what else to say... Bobby V has to go.

Chase Headley now leads the NL in RBI. With the money hopefully to come pretty soon, it was a genius move not to trade him. Hopefully the Padres can make some noise next year, especially with the farm system maturing even more every year.

Big series begins tonight at Fenway... Hopefully the Sox can put a major dent into the Stinkees post season ambitions.

You little ripper! What a night for Jacoby Ellsbury, with 4 hits, a run, a stolen base & a couple of ribbies to his name, including the walk off game winning RBI single.

Red Sox win 4-3. Hopefully they can repeat the dose again tomorrow... & to cap it off, the O's won their game over TB to go joint top at the AL E. :veryhappy:

The fact that the Sox are that bad they're behind Toronto in what has possibly been the worst season as far as injuries go in our history really says something.

When (not if) Valentine gets the boot, who do you guys want to replace him?

Normal service has been resumed with the Sox losing today's game, after having won the first 2 up in Toronto. Means need to go all the way back to mid June since the last time the Sox swept a series & just once since then (at the end of July) that they have won more than 2 wins on the spin. Abysmal.

A most curious move by Bobby V was to have Nava pinch hit for Iggy, in the middle of an at-bat, with the count at 2-2. Just bizarre. That said, Iggy is simply not ready for the majors, as his average of just .077 going into today's game suggests.

:31: FFS... Another blown save for the BoSox, lose 7-4, after going into the bottom of the 9th leading 4-1. Buchholz deserved the W after pitching 7 scoreless innings, gioving up 3 hits - 2 of which should have been routine outs in Ciriaco could play CF, but for all his hard work finishes with a ND; Bailey the blown save & the L.

The Red Sox are just horrible at the moment. A ship without a rudder.

I cant stress enough how surprised I am that my brewers still have a very good chance of the second wild card, after our horrible start and trading away greinke I thought our season was over but we are 3rd in the wild card race

Red Sox come back from behind to tie it at 6-6, push the O's into extra inning, (where they have an incredible record anyhow), and in the 12th, Aceves (who else) gives up 3 runs & the Sox have blown it again. The only upside is the O's winning means more pressure on the Stinkees, who themselves have been pushed into extra innings & are trailing the A's.

Think after the seasons that both the A's & the O's have had it would be great if both got into the post season proper. It would be harsh if the both finished in the WC spots & have to square off against each other. Ideally, the O's will pip the Stinkees in the AL E & then the A's can do the job & finish the Stinkees off, once and for all.

So, Dirk just slid in to prevent 2nd baseman throwing to first. He was out moments before and clearly went off line to hit the guy.Why is that allowed and where do they draw the line? Can he hook him?:smiley-laughing002:

Yes because the base runner sets the base path ( I know that is funny but it is the rule) and no he can't hook him.

Ally my worst fears have certainly come to pass this season. This has been the most disastrous season the Red Sox have had since I started watching baseball, that's for sure. :54:
