McGeough isn't a featherweight. He's got good strength and isn't easily shrugged off the ball. He will be as good or better than anyone we've got in central mid - with the possible exception of Wanyama, who, realistically, is likely to be away in 12-18 months time.

The idea that our best U21 players should hand in transfer requests if they're not starting regularly is ludicrous.

Ehhh? I said he would be better off handing one in because lets face it he is way down the pecking order in terms of CM, on the wing however I feel he could slot in there now and would be a credit to the team. For me him playing at CM would be a weakness.

He certainly is a featherweight compared to Wanyama, Ledley, Brown and maybe even Kayal which is why I prefer him on the wing.

i think his future is playing wide. he might no be that fast but neither is commons. thats how i see mcgeouch, a long term heir to commons' place. technically gifted and can pick a pass

Simply not true as far as I'm concerned, we'll have to agree to differ.

But in any case, using strength as the main criteria for a centre mid is the philosophy of * Scottish teams. We should be aiming a lot higher than that. Our side is crying out in agony for some creativity in the centre of the park, and McGeough can provide that.

This. Anyone who says McGeouch can't play centrally because he isn't big doesn't know the first thing about football. He was a joy to watch in central positions during the Next Gen games and I think he could be just as good at senior level if he was given a chance.

Any player could technically play at CM but Lenny needs to pick whos better at playing there and at the minute we have CMs that will start before McGeouch every week. If it was a advanced role with the likes of wanyama brown or ledley etc playing behind him then I think that would work perfectly for the team as a whole.

The only problem now is that if we loaned him out it would have to be to a first division team, should have probably sent him to a premier league club before the window closed.

He's at a Premier League club already.

Or did you mean the EPL?

Sorry, nothing personal. Haven't had a cup of tea yet.

I dont think theres any point in loaning out our best young players. The only reason Premiership teams do it is because theres a massive step up for their players playing Reserve games against young players to playing against quality Premiership experienced players. Us in the SPL theres not much of a step up and our best youngsters have little to learn by going on loan to the likes of St Mirren, we all know guys like McGeouch, George etc would be good enough to play for them and theres not much to be learned from that. They'd probably gain more from just training with our players and trying to break through.

I don't agree with this mate , Its all about first team football rather than getting 2 or 3 minutes in our first every now & again.

I would like to see our young players go out on loan & get some first team experience but it should be to footballing teams like St Mirren or Killie.

I think they need to show the character and mental strength to get into our team though. We all know they have the ability to play for diddy SPL teams, what they need to show is that they are Celtic class.

Going out on loan early in his career didn't harm your best mate Russell....

Players need game time to develop, you aren't allowed that at Celtic unless you are exceptional.

Id rather keep them here though, if I was at Celtic I wouldnt want to go out on loan. Id want to stay and break into the team, id only go out on loan as a last resort if I felt I wasnt going to make it at Celtic and wanted to prove to other teams that I would be good enough for them.

Tbh i think it depends on the player. Some develop at different rates and I'm sure Lennon will be able to tell if a player would benefit from regular football or getting the odd ten minutes whilst training with the best players in the league.

I think Watt wouldn't benefit from leaving because he can learn from Hooper, Stokes and Sammy and will get a lot of football too.

Regarding McGeouch I'm not sure. For a ball player like him it makes sense to be at a team that have a lot of possession and have good players along side him to bounce off of (like Celtic). But he isn't getting much game time at all, I don't want him to be the next paddy McCourt. I think he would really only get any benefit from a team like Dundee utd, Hibs or Aberdeen but even then i'm not sure how much that would benefit him. It really is a tricky one.

I'd send out Defenders/Goalies on loan to bad teams that will constantly be under pressure. That will do them the world of good. e.g Fraser

It's not as simple as saying that though, each individual case is different.

There are players that are ready to make the step up straight away and then there are players that need to go away, gain first team experience and then come back and make their attempt at breaking through.

It's not feasible for every young player just simply to be ready to bear the burden of expectation as a Celtic player.

He has had all the development at us he can get, he now needs game time. He has competition in the squad now too, so he needs the game time to push his development along a bit.

I would like to see him go down south to league 1 or the championship. I think somewhere like Shef Wed would be excellent for him.
