I was at the game today, sang rebel songs, and supported my team. So yes we were supporting Celtic.

Singing rebel songs and supporting Celtic have always went hand in hand, the two are not mutually exclusive.

The Jock Stein point is a mute one given that he used to specifically request "Sean South of Garryowen" be played on the tannoy before big matches as it got the crowd right up for it.

Good for you, try pontificating about this the next time you're up!

How have singing rebel songs gone hand in hand with supporting Celtic? Giving our club a bad reputation getting us fined yeah how great?. And prove Jock Stein requested Sean South to played on the tannoy.

I was there today, I sang the songs. Like I did at Pittodrie, Love Street and Ibrox. And I'll do the same at Rugby Park, then Easter Road and for every game I go to up and down Scotland. And you, sitting infront of your computer after watching the game on TV have the cheek to suggest I'm not a real fan?.

i cant believe grown men are moaning about the words of a song, who cares!! wheres your animal instinct. Sing our songs and be proud, its better than sitting on your hands. Im fed up of all this teachers pet attitude, let the people sing!!

Well write a letter to celtic telling them to stop playing Let the People Sing over the tannoy

YNWA has nothing to do with football

Fields of Athenry has nothing to do with football

Shall we stop singing them as well?

You shouldn't even need to ask that question, educate yourself a bit.

We've been singing rebel songs since our inception, and we've yet to be fined.

It's in one of the books about him, the one written by Archie McPherson IIRC. The point has been backed up by many an older Tim that I've asked, you know the type who would follow Celtic the length and breadth of the country back in the day.

Are any of the "offended brigade" older than 25? What the * did you do years ago? Supported someone else I'd assume......because no way would you set foot in CP. Celtic fans sung much worse back then. War songs rather than ballads.

he never said you weren't a real fan, and that bit about watching the game on the tv, basically saying he cant have an input on Celtic or what happens at games is bullshit, do you pay for your season ticket yourself?, if you do, lucky you, if i had the money to buy a season ticket and buy tickets for away games i would, but unfortunatly some people can't afford these things due to needing the money for other things, it doesn't make you any less of a fan, or give you no right to talk about what happend at a game.

    Me too! :celt_2:

    Indeed.

The very first meeting of Celtic at our inception was ended with a rousing rendition of * Save Ireland :celt_2:

Glasgow Celtic were formed as a direct result of British oppression in Ireland. The economic immigrants which settled in the West of Scotland only fled Ireland due to oppression. This came to a head over the years following Celtic's foundation culminating in armed insurrection.

Indeed Michael Davitt, an Irish Republican and member of the IRB laid the first sod of grass on Celtic parks hallowed turf. The Irish land league, the IRB and the * Brotherhood all helped Brother Walfrid establish Celtic.

Please do stop with this nonsense that Celtic and the Irish Republican movement do not have any justifiable links. We do and we should be proud of those links.

does it make it right?, no.

im not offended by the songs, not much offends me, but I don't see why the songs need to be sang, why not sing about the players?, or Celtic?, instead of the IRA? makes more sence, considering its a Football game.

He put fans in inverted commas essentially saying I'm not a fan. He can have an input, but not when its slagging the fans who are at the game.
