The CONCACAF qualifying is geared towards getting the USA to the world cup every time because FIFA are desperate to see the sport continue to grow in the States.

You can't blame the USA for that, they can only beat what is put in front of them.

To compare a wee country like Scotland to one like North America is frankly a wee bit daft, even if there is only the soccer moms, South American immigrants, European immigrants, etc... to thank for the interest in the game, sorry David Beckham - they still have more people to choose from in one state than we do in the whole country & even then McGeady & McCarthy choose to play for ROI even though they're Scottish!

Nice one Iontach, I fully expect USA to win the World Cup at some stage in history...unfortunately it will probably be before Scotland do, so good luck to them.
Both my wee cousins have scholarships to American Uni's through football ... sorry Soccer, they'd never get that here!!

Plus my brother in law makes a fortune in extra curricular activities, courtesy of the Soccer moms...but thats another story!!

 

I really don't think its fair to use the population as an argument. in America 90% of the population doesn't give a * about soccer. In Scotland I'd say a lot more of the population does give a *, and a lot more strive to play for teams like Celtic or better to make the big money in sport. In America the big money is in baseball, football, and basketball. So, the majority of our young athletes will move towards getting better at those games. *, you can make more money here playing hockey than soccer.

 

Not one of us Scots can bad mouth the U.S. national team, they have done more than us recently so as a team they are very capable. I'm talking about the mentality tho. Yes the players are professional and put as much effort and commitment in as any other pro, but i just feel that the way 'soccer' is seen in your country Iontach, holds players back. Theres no way you can deny that over here it's a totally different ball game (excuse the pun) in terms of passion for the game. The SPL has it's own style and the fans are some of the most passionate in the world. I don't think there would be a lot of American players who would be able to handle the pressure, especially of the Old Firm goldfish bowl.

I don't know tho, it's all just hypothetical. If the boy Dalby proves me wrong i'll apologise to every member on here that's from the U.S.

 

Dyron Daal has been good for dundee utd since coming back from injury 3 goals in 4 games and hes tall also a production of the ajax youth system could he be a potential celtic target.
