I understand what you're saying but I think this is the more important game. After our showing away to Sion I'm not holding out a lot of hope for the Madrid game (pessimistic, I know) so I'd rather play the best line-up for this game and hope that they're all fit for mid-week.

We should not play our best players in a game against a club that is ranked higher in the league (albeit we have a game in hand)? Does not make sense to me, honestly...

Commons isn't exaclty an out and out winger is he?
I'll be honest and I loved Brown last season out on the right. We played better knowing we had more baws in midfield. But I think it would work.

Brown will play, can't say I wouldn't be happier without him this week. Although he played well at the weekend.

And all this " we done it under TM" has to stop, unless used in perspective.
Who was our CM's? Who was our CB's? Who was our strikers?

    Answer those questions.

    True.

Another thing occurred to me, we're fortunate enough that neither Mulgrew or Wilson played an extra international fixture or two. Whereas most of Atletico's squad will no doubt have. An extra advantage for us?

Cha out for around 4 weeks with hamstring problem picked up on international duty , so hopefully we will see Wilson back in at full back

Why would you prefer an untried 19 year old full back who to be brutally honest has looked nothing special in the games he's played , poor defensively and ok going forward instead of Wilson who arguably was one of our consistent if not the most consistent player last season should be first pick right back without doubt . No doubt Mathews has a good future ahead but not now when there's clearly a better player in front of him at the club .

Matthews is far better on the ball, going forward than Wilson. I think that's what will be required for Motherwell at home.

If we were playing them away it would be Wilson in a shot.

IMO last season Mark Wilson was terrific going forward , I get the impression that because Mathews is new and has a reputation of an attacking full back he should play , when clearly on the basis of his first few games he's clearly not shown this pretty bizarre to want him in ahead of Wilson imo

I thought he's been good his first few games.

I know what you mean but I think Matthews has a better future than Wilson and we do need to develop him, it's a fine line really but I wouldn't complain if either of them started.

Wilson is very, very good at timing his runs and excellent at supporting. It's what he does on the ball he's not as good at it as Matthews.
