I agree with your analysis, I just do believe that Chapecoense is an unpredictable team, may do well as may be very poor, we will have to seat and watch.

A may agree with Santos running for the title, would be the fifth favourite side to win.

About Joinville and Avaí, JEC totally has chances to be promoted, for me they are the best side in this Série B right after Vasco (that is eevn worse as Palmeiras from 2013). Avaí defintely has no chance, unless they change everything after the World Cup, I'd bet that they will end in the second part of the table.

Other teams that may get promoted are América Mineiro, Paraná Clube and Ceará.
For relegation my bets goes on Vila Nova, Icasa, ABC, Oeste and Sampaio Corrêa.

Lanús destroyed Santos Laguna 4 x 1 over both legs and will now advance to the quarter finals to play Bolívar (who beat the other Mexican team left in, León). I fancied Santos to go far so this win shows just how good Lanús are, and the Copa Sudamericana win last year was no flash in the pan. Schelotto has proven himself a top quality manager so I'd expect to see him pop up in Europe soon enough to help keep this wave of good South American managers coming over. Could he do a "Mourinho" and win the Libertadores the year after the Sudamericana?

Grêmio lost 1 x 0 away to San Lorenzo, with the fantastic prospect, Ángel Correa getting the goal. The return leg should be a good game.

The night got no better for the Brazilians as Atlético Mineiro lost 1 x 0 to Atlético Nacional. Atlético MG battled hard and looked good for a draw until Sherman Cárdenas (the FM wonder kid, remember?) poped up in the 91st minute to score a Golaço

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGstYJQwJR8"]¡Golazo! de Sherman Cárdenas // Atlético Nacional 1 - 0 Atlético Mineiro, Copa Libertadores 2014 - YouTube[/ame]

Also this thing of beauty from Ronaldinho

These results, coupled with Cruzeiro's 1 x 1 draw at home against a quality Cerro Porteño side (amazing at home) gives me the feeling that we'll only have one Brazilian team in the last 8. That team will probably be Atlético Mineiro, who were unlucky last night and should be able to overcome the Colombians at the Independência.

Nacional of Paraguay beat Vélez Sarsfield 1 x 0 at home...

So right now it's looking very good for Bolivia, pretty good for Paraguay and very bad for Brazil.

Arsenal of Argentina play Unión Española of Chile tonight.

One of the Torcida Organizadas invaded the training ground of Remo with fireworks and bats to attack the team. This is in response to 3 x 0 defeat to Independente de Tucuruí in the Campeonato Paraense state championship. Remo has two major Torcida Organizadas, O Leão Azul (The Blue Lion) and O Fenômeno Azul (The Blue Phenomenon). Belém has some of the most fanatical fans in the country.

The players have stopped training and the club has gone into lock down until the police do something, which is unlikely. The coach Roberto Fernandes got death threats.

This isn't the first time this has happened this year. Earlier on in the year Gaviões da Fiel invaded the Corinthians training ground to try and attack Pato and steal stuff. Remo are a big club but they put a lot into the state championships because they are a poor club in a poor state, so can't win silverware in the national tournaments. Typical, the players at these types of clubs haven't supported Bom Senso FC as much as it will remove the State Championships, but maybe this will push their players into supporting Bom Senso FC's demands for better working conditions.

    We can only hope :50:

Was surprised when B3040dcidfoki3f509 or whatever said "a poor Coritiba side" on up this page. They played some nice stuff but just couldn't put the ball in the net. Though I know this isn't a great Santos team by any means. Brazilian football chops and changes that much in relation to team quality.

Cruz Azul 2-1 UNAM Puma's was a great game too I thought, doubt many watched it but :smiley-laughing002:.

Tell you what, any team that wins the Copa Libertadores is just as good as anything in Europe imo, the travel up and down South n Central America plus the teams in it are just as good as Europe.

    That hurts Londonderrybhoy :tongue1: :icon_mrgreen:

Coritiba had a good start last season before only just saving themselves on the last day. I didn't see that game but I've read that they missed Alex a lot because he is the guy that organises them. He was also their top scorer, and it's a worry when your top scorer is 36 years old. I also read that Santos made Coritiba look better than they actually are.

We are only two games in so I wouldn't read to much into it.

The Rei do Tapetão played well last night. Conca was really good, being involved in absolutely everything Flu did. The goal was all his doing, looking up and playing a lovely ball into Fred who squared it to Rafael Sobis to slot away. Fred's run showed why he will start for Brazil in the World Cup. Instead of the classic No.9, Scolari wants Fred to take the ball down and provide for Neymar. Make runs to create space, hold the ball up, provide assists and come in with a goal every now and again. It was a good run and ball into the box.

Palmeiras missed Alan Kardec a lot. Young Leandro is a good player but he was left exposed up front by himself. They miss Kardec's experience, they should have pulled out all the stops to keep him at the club. Valdivia blows hot and cold, Flu had the measure of him. Without him at his creative best Palmeiras couldn't create enough chances. Fernando Prass was Palmeiras' man of the match.

    :smiley-laughing002: * you.

Aye, the point about Santos making them look better crossed my mind when I was typing the post, they aren't as good as they were a few years ago at all.

Watched Club General Diaz 1-1 Cerro Porteno the other day too, Paraguayan football seems very poor. Not only that game but the league in general by what I've seen but I'm hardly an expert in it. :smiley-laughing002: Though I'd guess Libertad and Asuncion are decent.

Colo-colo play tonight, fantastic team to watch but I think I'm going to miss it :54:

I've got high hopes for them. Plenty of young talent there that will hopefully shine through.

Cerro Porteño are a good team, they went all of the last Clausura unbeaten, which is a quality achievement anywhere. Now they have put a lot more focus on the Libertadores and their league form has slipped as a result. Still, they managed to put seven past Deportivo Capiatá. Guillermo Beltrán got five. That was only three days before this game so that will have effected them. This shows that mismanagement is hindering the game there.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xqQFnVnyEY"]Cerro Porteño vs Deportivo Capiata (7-0) Resumen y Goles Apertura 22/4/2014 - YouTube[/ame]

Paraguay has problems because it's football is so centralised. Currently only one team in the Primera División, CA 3 de Febrero (currently last in the league) play outside Asunción. Only six teams in the second division play outside the capital metro area. So outside the five clubs of Nacional, Olimpia, Cerro Porteño, Libertad and Guaraní, no club has a major fan base to speak of, as Asuncenos (and people from the other cities with little football like Pedro Juan Caballero) flock to the big teams. Hence the league has an average attendance of two and half thousand and this hurts other clubs and football development.

On top of this violent hooligans scare people away from going to games. Clubs are unwilling to go after hooligans as they would lose ticket money. Clubs often support these groups by given hooligan groups free tickets to away games. They do this as club members vote for the club president and many presidents like having a mob to keep their election rivals silent.

Paraguay is the poorest member of CONMEBOL and money is a major issue for all clubs there. Olimpia, who reached the final of the Libertadores last year (and only lost on penalties) couldn't afford to pay their players wage, and more shockingly I'm sure they couldn't afford to pay the travel costs for the second leg of the Libertadores final. Their manager, the great Ever Hugo Almeida had to pay the travel costs himself and some of the player wages. Imagine Dortmund couldn't afford to travel to London for the Champions League final. It's kinda funny and very sad at the same time.

Paraguay is stuck between giants and has a pretty sad past. Plus it's still getting over the rule of Alfredo Stroessner (all Paraguayans have to have ID on them at all times for example) so there is a lot of corruption and mismanagement from top to bottom in all areas of life. This all takes place under the nose of CONMEBOL, based in Asunción. It's last long term president was the Paraguayan Nicolás Leoz, who was incredibly corrupt.

And a good person to follow for Paraguayan football info in English is Ralph Hannah and Olimpia play Libertad tonight :50:

They have been great this year. Just swept everyone else aside. It's kinda good to see them get one over Universidad de Chile, who just bought up every in the league to beat them :smiley-laughing002:

Leo Moura sent off. Very very harsh. It was a poor tackle and should have been a yellow but South American refereeing standards got in the way of that

Damage limitation now, almost certainly going to lose.

    Half time scores.

    Botafogo 0 x 2 Internacional
    Corinthians 1 x 0 Flamengo
    Cruzeiro 0 x 0 São Paulo
    Vitória 2 x 0 Atlético PR

Botafogo are so poor right now it's crazy. They'll be screaming at the Rio sky "voltar Seedorf! voltar!" :56:

If Flamengo lose Cáceres for any length of time the results will be hellish. The ref has wrecked this game but still, Fla have been pretty bad.

Plus I big up Samir in the Transfer thread and then he * up on the corner here :52:
