How could they get into Europe by finishing 7th in the Swiss league?

He was wrong. They finished 4th, Immortal (who lives in Switzerland) said so.

Think we'd get shagged in that group, but hopefully there'd be a few good games at home, the team can learn from playing against better teams and maybe build some confidence and put up enough of a fight to help ours and scottish footballs reputation.

Getting ahead of ourselves though, Sion have to be thrown out first.

bring them on,if you want to be better play better teams! Our problem is we play down to our foes, playing the likes of hamilton, st mirren, ect. has helped to land us in the state we are in.(helped but is not the total)Go cold turkey and play better teams! A wise and great coach once said 'Anything easy ain't worth a *!'

Theyre not pish though are they?

They play in a much better League than us, so we can hardly call them pish.

The Swiss League has Basel, Young Boys, Zurich, Grasshoppers, Sion and Thun.

Thun knocked Palermo out of Europe this season and finished 5th in the Swiss League, behind Sion :50: Zurich knocked our Standard Liege this season. Last season Young Boys beat Spurs, Fenerbahce, Stuttgart, Getafe and Zenit. Basel beat Roma last season. Not to mention Switzerland have made the last few International tournaments.

If Swiss teams are pish then what are Scotland and Scottish teams?

Swiss teams are actually quite good, as they have a good influx of talented young players, a competitive League and confidence about their play because they so often get very good results both as Clubs and as a National team.

In the last year in Europe Swiss teams have beaten:

Roma, Palermo, Tottenham, Zenit, Celtic, Fenerbahce, Stuttgart, Getafe, Debrecen, Cluj, Westerlo, Sheriff Tiraspol. No Scottish teams have come near that for a good 4 years.

If you go back to the 2009/10 season they also have recorded draws against team like Bayern Munich, Marseille, AC Milan plus wins against AC Milan and Athletic Bilbao.

Cant believe this hasnt been sorted yet. If we do go through we go threw as 4th seeds despite being 2nd seeds. This isnt fair on Celtic,Rennes or Udinesi.

its a tough group, but at our prime we could take any of europes top clubs at paradise, but away from home, we are dreadful, evidence last night. i dont think we would have had a chance at all even if majstorovic stayed on. key players didnt show up, and why lennon risked injuring hooper, kayal and wilson further baffles me.

but id like to see sion get kicked out, for the revenue it would bring to the club, but would the fans want to travel again to see our club be humiliated in spain, italy and france, argueably in the top 5 european leagues?

Balance sheet would look good though.

Ach, if we get in then at least we know were we are in terms of europe thus not to expect much; who knows maybe our overwhelming underdog status would suit us rather than being "expected to go through"

I admire RudeBhoy's confidence. I reckon we're still a pretty decent side, but we'd find ourselves out-matched in a group such as this one.

    Still we''ll take it :86:

Plus it would be a dream Group for the players, fans and Board because if it was most of the other Groups we'd be lucky to get 25,000 but now we've got 2 of the best teams in it in our Group and Rennes who are no mugs either we could expect a good 40,000-odds

It would do the players the world of good too playing good quality opposition with not much pressure on us.

On paper, all 3 teams would beat us, and Atheltico Madrid & Udinese would probably do so comprehensively.

But after the Sion disaster, we can just hope that they will under-estimate us, and we up our game.

Of course, that's if we get in. It wouldn't be the most honourable way to get in, but I would definitely take it at this stage.

Pains me to say it but that group would be great a few years back but now with the current squad anyone who think we would get anything out of that group are * delusional they would run a * savvy against us and it's hard to say that.

Would absolutely love to get into that group, would actually prefer to play these bigger teams and Atletico & Udinese are two of the best teams in the competition. Still think Sion will get away with it though.
