Scumbag? Come on man, that's harsh.

To be fair, United are obviously fiercer rivals with Liverpool than City.

He would say that though :86:

    Ferguson on Rooney

"We've done everything we can for Wayne Rooney since the minute he came to the club. I trusted this lad. I thought we had a deal. Buy him if you like. But good luck if you do. This is a club which bases all its history and its tradition on the loyalty and trust between managers and players and the club."

I think he must have got offered money by Utd but City probably contacted him and said they will give him whatever amount and he must have demanded that Utd match that money or sell him as Ferguson was fuming and basically called him a mercenary.

John Terry. Squeezed every drop he could out of Chelsea during that Man City transfer saga.

Played for the 2 biggest clubs in Portugal, also rivals. Played for 3 of the top clubs in Italy and has played in the Champions League for 5 of the clubs he had played for.

I've never gotten the whole mercenary thing in most cases. Who can blame a guy for wanting to make as much money as he can, and to play football in as many places as possible? Why are players expected to be loyal when clubs get off free of any accusation? Why do we demand loyalty from a * 16 year old kid in Islam Feruz while at the same time attacking our own player Samaras and letting him know he's not welcome? You don't know the backgrounds of these players... there are exceptional cases like Figo and Tevez but maybe the majority are like Herculez Gomez.

Get real. We're not talking about "making a living" here. We're talking about making obscene, revolting amounts of money: making more money than any man could ever need, making more in a single year than most folk earn in an entire lifetime. And still being greedy for that wee bit extra.

These avaricious * turn my stomach, honestly.
