they way i see it is this, the defenders the lb/rb/ should not be used in most games as that puts added pressure on the likes of Dan, there job should only be, when under attack defend, not brought into play from the midfield with there pass backs.
that is happening far two many times, and using Dan to help the middle of the park, as you have, all seen the ball passed back to Dan, then you have the peter pointers telling him to toe it up the park, something the middle of the park could have done 2 min before they passed it back. the defenders job is to defend, not mix it with attacking play, thats what we pay guys in the middle of the park for, to drive forward, no back the way. if the guys in the middle cant drive forward get rid of them simple, get some that can

yes they should be honed in the league and mastered, to then be played in Europe. if you are defenders, thats what you are, why make a hole in your defense, 4 square is my ploy all the time

imo opinion dan is coming close to full fitness and is a solid player for us

 

Quality midfielders, wingers etc but a cheap and nasty defense. It is typical Celtic. Almost a tradition with us. Considering the talent in the MF and creative players we have, its pretty depressing. Reminds me of the Burns side with all that talent in attack and then Malky McKay, Brian O'Neill, Johh Hughes, Gordon Marshall etc as our last line of defense. The only real exceptions were Wim who had IMO our most solid defense in modern times and MON. Rangers tend to build teams from the back and that has allowed them to take the title a number of times when they were not a great side overall.

 

Agree with a bit of this. However, I think we've got quality RB's and LB's - we're desperate for a good goal-keeper and could do with another central defender in my opinion.

 

im afraid i find big a dan a bit slow and his timing not the best i belive he,s good cover.....i,d like to see rogne and wilson as a pairing ...rogne for me is by far our best defender...the two would make a brilliant young pairing...

 

That is the vital last line - the goalie and CHs. If they are excellent then the FBs are not so vital. Rangers have won three in a row based on there goalie and CHs. If we sign Gordon and another proper monster CH (not some old *) then we will be in a much better place. I think we also need a striker too. After Hoops and Stokes we just have problem players like Sammy and Murphy, neither of whom score much in open play. I will be seriously worried if we dont sing a striker.

he was a constant in the defence that conceded the least goals in the league last season, he must be doing something right.

 

They only get it tight when there *, the problem is we havnt had a decent 1 since the likes of bobo, mjallby and valagarean left, the likes of caldwell and loovens etc got slated because they were pure jobby, maj gets slated off some because he,s sloppy, slow and doesnt win enough headers and just about good enough for the spl, but he would get found rite out against decent opponents
the boy wilson looks calm composed, decent in the air and uses the ball well and looks as though he can play a bit, get another 1 of him and were laughing

 

To be fair bobo, mjallby and valagarean got their fair share of stick over the years. Centre backs are never the most popular of players, I just think we should try to encourage them a bit more, it's a very selfless posistion to play & rarely get the praise it deserves.

You need to build a good partnership, Maj hasn't had that luxury. He's made some mistakes, of course, who hasn't? But he been there when we needed him last season & done it with the capt armband on.

Give him time, him & K.Wilson could be the new Vidic
& Ferdo!!

 

Everytime he's in the team we play well. He's tough, generally smart with ball, and very very strong. I don't understand all the crap he's getting. He's been a great soldier for us at a modest price. Let's support our players, or at least get behind the players that do well for us.

 

You ought to watch the other lot from Glasgow, then. Let's just sit all four defenders and a mid deep... oh and only play one striker. That way, we'll have the best defense in the SPL. Oh wait...

Anyone else think he looked woeful tonight? I really don't think this guy is good enough to be on the bench never mind the team. Caught out for pace constantly tonight and his defensive headers are not convincing at all.

Please buy a new CB lennon PLEASE!

 

Shouldn't be a starter that's for sure, we didn't have much choice tonight though. And that's why we should sign another CB, it won't happen though sadly. I'd be very surprised if we signed a CB.

 

Majstorovic is awful. He is only playing because of the injuries to our centre backs. I would put him fourth or fifth choice centre back now. I still have nightmares of Adam Rooney running rings round him at ICT last year.

 

Pish tonight just the norm not good enough let's give Wilson and Mulgrew a run together when kev fit.

 

I like Big maj, problem is he can be shakey at times, had a great game againt Aberdeen at pittodrie, happy for him to start alongside kelvin tbh.

But only until Izzy's back so we can stick mulgrew next to kelvin.
